Trouble for Gautham's film?
IndiaGlitz [Monday, September 19, 2011]

Gautham Vasudev Menon's forthcoming film 'Neethane En Ponvasanthan', which is simultaneously being made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, is reportedly facing some trouble, thanks to Ram, who is playing the lead role in the Telugu version.

The movie which has Jiiva playing the lead in the Tamil version and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the Hindi version, has Samantha as the heroine in all the three languages. The project hit the floors recently and Gautham was shooting simultaneously with all the three heroes.

However, it is now said that Ram had walked out of the project, since he felt that it would take much time for Gautham to complete the film, since he is making it in three languages. "Though he was thrilled to be part of a Gautham-directed film, the delay in filming the multilingual had made the actor unhappy," sources say.

The film which was initially titled 'Nithya' was about an engineering student falling for a girl who is doing a course in psychology. "A breezy love story, it would be on the lines of Varanam Aayiram and Vinaithandi Varuvaya, the recent blockbusters of the director," say sources.

Ok so update on this... looks like Gautam has found a replacement for the Telugu version.. none other than Nani (Naveen):

Gautham's new hero
Indiaglitz [Saturday, September 24, 2011]

Gautham Vasudev Menon has found a replacement for Ram, who opted out of the Telugu version of his trilingual, which is titled 'Neethane En Ponvasantham' in Tamil. And it's not Jiiva, the protagonist of the Tamil version as reported earlier.

Instead, the director will film the Telugu portions with Naani of 'Ashta Chemma' fame, who was seen playing a crucial role in 'Veppam', a movie produced by Gautham Menon. Impressed by his skills, Gautham has roped in Nani for the project," sources say.

Aditya Roy Kapur is playing the lead role in the Hindi version of this trilingual love story, while Samantha is the heroine of all the three versions. "It is about an engineering student falling in love with a psychology student. It will be as sweet as Gautham's earlier love stories," sources say.

AR Rahman is touted to compose the music for 'Neethane En Ponvasantham'. Shooting for the film is expected to complete by the beginning of 2012, after which Gautham is scheduled to start 'Yohan Adhyayam Ondru', his first movie with Vijay.

Gautham Menon signs Nani for his trilingual

Gautham Menon
Director Gautham Menon has found a replacement for Ram to play the lead in Neethane Enponvasantham (NEP), a trilingual.

He has roped in Nani of Ashta Chemma fame to do the Telugu version of the film. Confirming the news, Gautham says, "Nani is doing the Telugu version of my film. We have started filming with him already." Interestingly, Nani played one of the leads in Veppam, which was produced by Gautham. NEP is being simultaneously shot in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi with Jiiva, Nani and Aditya Roy Kapur. And Samantha, who has worked with Gautham already in his earlier ventures, is playing the female lead in all the three.

Meanwhile, Gautham has also titled his Hindi remake of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, starring Prateik and Amy Jackson in the lead. "It's called Ek Deewana Tha," informs Gautham.

The film was rumoured to be titled Prem Katha, but this official announcement has put the rumours to rest.
