A tale of three sisters

<36,2,,,,,,2>"Kasamh Se", an epic tale of three sisters living together in a big city, will be premiered on Zee TV on January 16. Though the sisters are completely different in terms of their personality and outlook towards life, they are tied together by the sacred bond of trust and sisterhood. The same problems and issues are handled differently by each one of them.

The main lead in the serial is played by debutante Prachi Desai and Ram Kapoor, who gained recognition from the serial "Dhadkan". Arunima Choudhary and Roshni Chopra -- who become popular presenting cricket matches on Doordarshan -- play Prachi's two siblings.

At a press conference in Delhi on Tuesday, Prachi said: "I am playing the role of Bani, who is a traditional Indian girl. The eldest of the lot, she symbolises togetherness and camaraderie."

Admitting that a lot of responsibility has been entrusted on her shoulders, Prachi said initially she was nervous but had now got into the skin of the character.

Arunima is portraying the character of an insecure, reticent girl, while Roshni is playing a typical Generation X girl, basically a happy-go-lucky person.

Asked why he agreed to act in serial that has a women-oriented subject, Ram said: "Television is basically a women-oriented medium and most serials deal with issues confronting women. However, in this serial all the sisters come to stay in my house after their parents pass away. My relationship with each one of them is different."

A Balaji Production presentation, the serial will be aired from Monday to Friday at 9 p.m. --Madhur Tankha

Kasamh Se

Start Date 23rd January '06 ( Mon- Fri )

This is a story of three sisters Bani, Pia and Rano born and brought up in a small but beautiful town of Mount Abu. Motherless sisters lived with their father who loved them but after the loss of his wife could not over come the loss of his wife and fell prey to drinking and gambling……

Born to the same parents the three sisters had different nature from each other. Bani the eldest of them all did not want much from the life and was happy with life. All she wanted was her sisters happiness. Where as the middle one Pia always thought that the life is unfair to her. Pia dreamt of getting married to a rich man and easily achieving all the riches in the world. Youngest Rano wanted to prove something in her life, she dreamt of becoming a entrepreneur a tycoon some day. Although they were different but there was one thing common in them, their love for each other…. their commitment to each other…and their unsaid promise of being with each other in any situation.

After their father's death the three-orphaned sisters left the town and went to live with Jai Walia, their mother's old friend and confidant, and a millionaire with an industrial empire of proverbial extent, in the mahanagar of Mumbai. Not all appreciated their presence in the Walia mansion and wanted them to go back to their small town.

This sudden turn in their life….. new city, new lifestyle, new people…..and acid test of their love……will they be able to handle this? Will they be able to stay together? Will they be able to keep their promise of being there for each other come what may? To know the answer watch Kasamh Se……

Ekta prays for Kasam Se's success at Tirumala Hills
(Friday, Jan 13, 2006 - 06:00 pm)
Televisionpoint.com Team
Balaji Telefilms head Ekta Kapoor was in Tirupati on Thursday to offer special prayers to Lord Balaji at Tirumala. The TV honcho who has been recently selected as one of the 175 Young Global Leaders for this year, visited Tirupati to also pray for the success of her soon to be launched television serial, Kasam Se, a family saga which revolves around three sisters tied together by a bond of trust.

A spiritually inclined person, Ekta will be launching an exclusive range of navagraha agarbattis at Haridwar in April. "My dad's birthday falls on April 7 and we plan to launch the product on that day. Navagrahas (planets) play a very important role in our lives. Everything we do is strongly influenced by the position of the planets. With this new agarbatti, you only have to light it once a day. If your planetary position is weak, it will reduce its negative impact and if the position is strong it will enhance its positive effects. The agarbatti comprises all the ingredients that one uses in a havan, like sandalwood, flowers and wood," says Ekta in a telephonic interview from Mumbai, adding that the product will be launched in a special sequence of Kyun Ki...

Television's queen bee admits that she is a spiritual person. "Yes God, plays a very important role in my life. The Almighty is a symbol of energy and hope and we need both to survive. It is one way of realising that there is a much bigger being than all of us whom we can turn to. Nothing can be more reassuring than that," she says.

She is modest about being selected as a Global Young Leader. " It feels good. I guess people like to attach tags to your name. Personally, I just believe in focusing on my work," she says.

Amita back in Balaji fold!

Amita Chandekar

Amita Chandekar is smiling a lot these days! On one hand, she  plays an investigative cop Ashwini in Sony's CID Special Bureau and on the other, she plays this very glamorous actress in Balaji's, Kasamh Se which will air bon Zee from 16 January.

"I am enjoying both my characters to the hilt. I have really worked hard for all this and it feels nice now that my work is getting appreciated. I have received a good response for CID Special Bureau and I can hardly wait now for Kasamh Se to come on air," smiles Amita.

"I am playing Jay Waliya's (RamKapoor) girlfriend who is an aspiring actor, known for her good work in the industry. It's about how a 20-25 year old girl comes into Ram's life all of a sudden and gets married to him, leaving his previous relationship with my character in disarray. The drama unfolds from there," says Amita.

Amita made her debut with Balaji's Kutumb on Sony three years back. After which she followed it up with some popular shows like Quayamat on DD, Kamal and Piya Ka Ghar on Zee, Kya Hadsa Kya Haqueeqat on Sony and Kahin toh Meelenge on Sahara One.

PROFILE: Amita Chandekar

Nitin Joshi

New Delhi, January 15: Tall, beautiful with talent to match her looks. And then, there's her effervescent smile. Amita Chandekar had to be an actress. And that is precisely who she is, a popular one at that.

You have seen this Maharashtrian-Mumbai beauty earlier in shows like Kutumb (her debut), Kahin To Milenge, Komal, Kya Hadsa Kya Haqeeqat, Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi, Kayamat and Piya Ka Ghar. Currently, you can watch her as Inspector Ashwini in Sony's CID Special Bureau, while she awaits the premiere of her new show on Zee, Ekta Kapoor's Kasamh Se. ''Both my roles are brilliant roles,'' she boasts, ''Enjoying my work completely and working hard.'' On the one hand, Amita plays this serious tough cop Ashwini in Special Bureau, while in Kasamh Se which is to begin on Zee this week, she plays a very glamourous character called Sonali who's an actress. ''The roles I have in both serials are completely different. That's why I enjoy my work so much,'' claims Amita.

She goes on to explain more about her characters: ''Ashwini is a serious investigative officer, very practical, level-headed who also understands people's problems. Sonali is an actress who wants to do meaningful roles, who's seen ups and downs, who's matured over the years. She is in love with Ram Kapoor. It's a role full of impact''. Lucky girl. Who gets two such dramatically different roles with so much contrast? Most actresses get to play the bahu, biwi or the bhabhi clad in sarees and designer bindis.

Is it difficult playing a cop, Sonali? Honestly, I am getting used to it. It's the first time I am playing a cop so, initially, it was little difficult but now it's fun. Learning a little bit with each passing day,'' adds Amita. The young actress is pleased to be back in the Balaji fold. She's done quite a few shows in the past with them including Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi, Kayamat, Kya Hadsa Kya Haqeeqat. ''In fact, I made my debut with a Balaji show - Kutumb. Now, in Kasamh Se, I have this important and lovely role,'' she says.

If you consider the amount of work many of her contemporaries have on hand, Amita falls a little on the short side. However, she claims to be content and doesn't feel she is on the downside. ''I have done quite a bit. Ever since I started out, say three years ago, I haven't taken a holiday. I have been working continuously. I think it's good enough. And honestly, I want to be associated with shows which are good in terms of work and not just in terms of keeping my diary full,'' states Amita. Kasamh Se?
