Discussion: If you could teach 3 books...

Suppose you get an opportunity to teach/have discussions on 3 books with high school/college students, which 3 ones would you pick? Why?

Remember that the content has to be appropriate for ALL ages as well as the books should be informative, inspirational, honest, interesting, worth discussion and/or easily applicable to our lives.

So... which 3 books would you pick?

I don't know about the other two, but definitely The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch - I read it recently and it's just so amazing :)

George Orwell's Animal Farm & Nineteen Eighty-Four is a must. I don't have any specific suggestion for 3rd book. Perhaps The House of God LOL, recommended for medical neophytes like me.

Interesting picks! Though I can see a lot of discouragement for Harry Potter.. I would never understand why though.. I've heard in some public schools, Harry Potter was banned because of supposedly the way it promotes magic and sorcery and what not.. Ridiculous! HP has some of the best themes that can make for a great discussion!

That was my FIRST choice, Chhilt! What is it..do we have like a connection or can you read minds? TongueLOL  It is one of my MOST favorite books. Every single time I read it, it fills me with hope and dreams. A guy who's dying talks about how to live. Hats off!

Yeah tell me about it, I remember how it got banned in my school way back when I was in 8th or 9th grade because it represented the Bible in some aspects or some crap like that! and because of some surprise check my 5th book was confiscated, i was so furious, i made my mom talk to the principal!!! I loved the look on my principals face when she had to hand the book back to me! ROFL

It's ridiculous how some people create unnecessary hype about HP... it's a simple book with awesome themes, yes set in a magical world, but so what?!

Oh, I don't know, maybe I'm Graced with mind-reading? :P Haha :D On a serious note, yes that book is really one that I think will appeal to everybody - and I love how it never comes off as preachy or trying too hard, just honest and uplifting :)
