Part 11:
As she hurriedly drove back home on her scooter, Khushi
couldn't help but wonder why this had been happening to her in the last two
days. Her meeting this man, and then coming face to face with that part of her
past she had thought she had long forgotten seemed to just make life difficult
to live all over again. She had come out of the trauma with a great deal of
difficulty and now, she had met this man two times already.
As she parked her two wheeler and entered the house, her mother noticed her
lost and forlorn face and came forward to talk to her.
Gar: aa gayi? Harish ji aaye the ... aaj unki dukaan ka udghaatan hai, aur sham ko unhone ne bahut badi party rakhi hai .. wo chahte hai ke tum wahan gaana gao … maine toh keh dia, ke humari khushi zaroor gaana gayegi …
Khushi is still lost …
Gar: chalo ab mujhe Prasad dedo aur jao apni jeeji ki madad kar do …
This is when Khushi snaps out and asks her… "kis cheez ki madad amma…. "
Gar: wo Dilli ja rahi hai, thode dino ke liye … bua ji ke saath …
Khu: kya? (her entire mood changing) … jeeji Dilli ja rahi hai, wo bhi humare bagair ….
Bua: tumhe aane ki koi zaroorat nahi hai … (coming from inside)… tumhare yahan rehne se hi toh poori baat bigdi hai …
Khushi has tears in her eyes on learning, her sister was going away…
Khu: hum abhi jeeji se baath karte hai .. hume jaanna hai, ke wo khud jaana chahti hai… ya … aap unhone zabardasti le jaa rahey ho …
Khushi walks into the room to see Payal sitting there crying … as she folds her clothes placing them one after another in the suit case. From the look on her jeeji's face she knows her sister perhaps didn't want to go either.
Khu: Agar aapko jaana nahi hai toh aap keh deti na jeeji.. aise rone se kya hoga?
Payal: ab mana karne se koi fayda nahi hai, suna hai shehar main bua ji ke jaan pehchaan waaley ka koi beta hai aur who chahti hai ke main unse milu.
Khu: par jeejii yeh toh… (confused) .. hum abhi amma babuji se baat karte hai …
Payal: rehne do Khushi, main subah amma babuji ko baat karte hue suna hai, w bahut pareshan ho rahey hai ke meri shadi kisi na kisi wajah se baar baar toot rahi hai ..
Khu: par shaadi karna kisike zindagi ka lakshya thodi ho sakta hai jeeji…
Payal: kya pata Khushi…shayad hume yeh ladka pasand aa jaye … (half heartedly as she suddenly remembers the face of Akash and then quicks changes her mind)
Khu: aapko koi bhi ladka pasand nahi ayega jeeji aur hum yeh baat jaante hai …
Payal: tumhe kaise pata… shayad pasand aa jaye …
Khu: main jaanti hoon, ke aapke dil main kisi aur ne jaga bana li hai …
Payal: kya bakwaas kar rahi ho tum … (turning her face away)
Khu: humari taraf dekho aur sach sach batana jeeji… kya hum jhoot keh rahey hai ..
Payal stands up, goes and closes the door to their bed room and walks up to Khushi and tells her …
Payal: dekho Khushi jaisa tum soch rahi ho, waisa kuch bhi nahi hai …
Khu: main jaanti hoon jeeji, lekin kal jo maine tumhare aankhon main dekha wo pehle kabhi nahi dekha …. Kya tum nahi chahti ke tum koshish karo?
Payal: nahi … Main koshish nahi karna chahti …. Aur rahi baat kal ki, ek bar milne se, achi baat karne se kuch bhi nahi hota … aur .. fir, jab tak hum kisi ke saath thoda waqt bitaye, unhe jaane, hume kaise pata chalega wo insaan hai kaisa … aur fir Akash ji…
Khu: jeeji main toh kisi ka naam bhi nahi liya tha, aur aap khud… dekha .. kis qadar asar kiya hai unhone tumhare dil par .. aur tum yeh sab chod ke jaana chahti ho, bina mauka diye … bina kuch jaane …
Payal: Khushi agar .. tumhe lagta hai, main Akash ji ko bilkul nahi jaanti toh tum galat samajhti ho … aur unse accha insaan koi ho hi nahi sakta …
Khushi is a little confused now .. she doesn't know what her sister is talking about and she wants further explanation…
Payal: tumhe yaad hai, jab main college main padhti thi, main humesha humare senior ke bare main baat karti thi jo har story writing competition main first aata tha?
Khu: haan, aur aap kehti thi, ke jis tarah se wo likhta hai ussey aise lagta hai jaise koi kahani nahi aankhon ke saamne 70 MM ki picture chal rahi ho ..
Payal: wo Akash ji hi the Khushi …
Khushi: kya??
Payal: Haan, lekin wo college main mere senior the aur kabhi baat hi nahi ho payi humari .. lekin main humesha wo jo bhi likhte the, padhti thi, aur pasand bhi karti thi.. aur … na jaane kab mujhe usne pyaar ho gaya .. pata hi nahi chala…
College khatam hua, aur wo chaley gaye aur maine bhi uske baad jaane ki koshish nahi ki ke wo gaye kahan …
Khu: Lekin Jeeji, aapne mujhe bhi nahi bataya??
Payal: batake kya karti Khushi? Batake kya fayda hota .. jo cheez mumkin hi nahi hai, uske bare main sochna, uske bare main ummeed karna bhi galat hota hai…
Khu: kyun tum mein kya kami hai.. aur kal maine dekha Akash jib hi tumko pasand karte hai jeeji .. maine kal unki aankhon main wo dekha ..
Payal: issi liye toh main ja rahi hoon Khushi, kyunki main kisi tarah ki ummed is waqt badhana nahi chahti… jo khoobsoorat ehsaas mere dil main hai, usey humesha ke liye usi tarah ked karke rakhna chahti hoon main … aur baat kami ki nahi hai … baat hai uss darr ki, jiski wajah se mujhe yeh lagne laga hai, ke meri ummeed mujhe fir se mujhe uss tara nirash na kar de jiss tarah main pehle hui thi, unke college chod ke jaane pe …
Khu: bahut galat kar rahi ho tum jeeji …
Payal: main bhi nahi jaanti ke main kya kar rahi hoon… lekin shayad koshish karne ki taakat nahi hai mujhe ... main Khushi nahi hoon.. main payal hoon, aur maine kabhi mooh kholke apne dil ki baatein kisi se bhi nahi ki hai, tum meri behen ho aur tum mujhe khoob samajhti ho, issi liye mujhe kuch kehna nahi padta… mujhe jaane do khushi … iss baar main jaana chahti hoon…
For once Khushi is totally tongue tied and lost for words. She doesn't know why her sister had decided on this. But she knew, arguing now would only make her sister's resolve stronger. Besides she knew her sister was going to be with Bua ji and Bua would not let her marry any good for nothing guy. Khushi and Payal had grown up with bua when they were kids and had only lived with their parents during the last 10 years. Garima and Shashi husband had lived in a village, while Bua managed the house. A few years ago when her husband had moved to Delhi she had to leave with him too. She had offered to take Payal with her and send Khushi back to the village, but since the sisters were inseparable, the parents had decided to move to Lucknow and set up their own business.
As Payal left that evening, the sisters were inconsoleable. This was the first time they were perhaps going to be living away from each other. Payal took a promise from Khushi that she would forget everything she had told her that evening and that she would not do anything about it. But as her sister left, Khushi not only felt lonely and lost, her mind was also filled with anger and determination. Payal had also warned her not to step out of the house alone, especially since Shyam had been around and she also told her she would call her every day.
Khushi had already made up her mind, that she would definitely do something for her sister considering she had abruptly left, but didn't know how. She knew she now had access to the raizada house and she knew she could meet Akash more often. She would first find out what he thought about her sister and then let her devi maiyya execute the great plans of destiny. However as she prayed to Devi Maiyya, wiped her tears and stepped into her hall, she heard her father speak…
"suna hai, tum sham se mili thi, hume bataya kyun nahi ???? "
There is anger written all over his face and Khushi knew if there was one thing she totally dreaded and couldn't escape, it was her father's anger. He would love her with all his heart, but if he ever got angry, no one could stop him. She knew it, after her earlier experience with Shaam
