Note : Priya's part is a longer one this time. I plan to continue this for another two parts maybe, and the length would be back to normal. Apologies for the delay.

#5 The last droplets.
He had to go there now. It was inevitable. He cancelled the
previous meeting in the restaurant because he urgently had to go and meet his
friend. He felt sorry for she had waited two hours before he could let her know
he wasn't coming. Wasn't it exactly what was happening in their lives too?
Waiting patiently for something but never showing up anyway. In a way, it
summed up their whole lives story. He was breaking himself up from the only
relationship that had gone this far, till engagement. He needed strength to be
strong and to face the girl while he becomes yet another man who rejects her
and breaks her heart. At this point of time, all he could he think of was his
father. He decided mentally to go and visit the temple he got built in memory
of his beloved father, where he couldn't reach on time for pooja. Fighting the
Delhi traffic and scorching heat, he reached his destination and then he saw
HER. Right in front of his eyes. He tried hiding from her but considering his
large frame he just followed her from behind.
What he saw shocked him out of his wits. She stumbled on a
rock outside the mandir and on composing herself and entering the temple, the
priest had gushingly told her about Ram's company being responsible for
creation of this temple. No hast, no perplexing, not even a single disdainful
expression crossed her face. It was apparently the founder's day for the
temple. Never in the whole world had a person come alive and blessed through a
picture and it wasn't likely to happen this time either. Still she completed
the nuptials with absolute mesmerism and bowed her head against the picture of
his father with the sanctity of a pure heart.
At that point of time, he had gratification filled in him.
He made up his mind to MARRY that girl. His father had helped him. He could
have married her then and there but societal norms stopped him from doing
so. His first impression about this
particular girl was totally wrong. All he wanted to do now was to go to her
place like this never happened and ask HER to take HIM back and accept him for
whatever he was, like he did now. He thanked his father, bowed his head and
went on in his life.
Words were incapable of showing what she felt at that moment. She was thinking about ram's father and wondered what a good man he might be, for his son had staunch family values. As soon as she entered her apartment building, she was blocked by him. Her ex flame. Ashwin.
Unaccustomed to such situations, she had tried to run away from incidents like these. No, she wasn't afraid and didn't turn her back to her past but she just chose to make peace with it. For a man who preferred monetary gains against life long happiness didn't deserve her love, not even her mercy, she decided with a heavy heart.
She was stopped by him. He chose to declare his irrevocable love for her at that moment. Vulnerability was not even close to what she felt. Anger was more like it. She wanted to slap him hard, for betraying her first, making amends later and now betraying his wife just because he was threatened that another man was trying to trespass his territory. What did that man think anyway? She always knew she was over him but was he? She knew the answer now. For selfish men like him, there was no love. Possession was he knew.
What was his fault anyway? All men were the same. If only RAM hadn't left her. In this chauvinist world, you actually need a man. To protect you, your virtue, your dignity and most importantly, your sanity.
Unable to control herself anymore, she slapped him hard and reminded her of the repercussions of his divorce with his wife. He couldn't afford her alimony, she couldn't afford to lose a friend like sheetal. No matter how hard hitting reality was, she wanted priya happily married, not just to her husband though. She reminded him of his betrayal, cried that she was not a toy to be tampered with, abandoned and then, chosen again to play with according to his fancies. It was her life, not a dress rehearsal.
And since her fate was unpredictable as life itself, she saw Ram walking in in a hurry. She partly felt traumatised and partly relieved. A part didn't want Ram to overhear her conversation with her ex and a part of her wanted him to listen and slap the man hard who tried to mess with to be mrs. Ram kapoor, if only for a few days. His one punch would be enough to dislocate his jaw for a lifetime. ram could help her for the last time, couldn't he?
She linked his arm with hers and tried to introduce the two men formally and as calmly as her fluttered mind allowed. She lend on to ram's words and well, his arm for dear life, praying he would understand what she needed. As if telepathy between them existed, her mind (even in the state of discomfort) mocked her. Strangely, she felt protected. Ram quite unnaturally, had understood the situation and proclaimed the wedding was still on. She choked on her breath and realized it was going too far. Her ex had returned to his place disheartened and partly threatened by the man's booming personality.
Relief washed through her and tears made their way through her eyes. She could see the scare in his eyes- of tears. He decided he would do anything to woo her and her family back. She smiled and asked him not to do anything reckless. If nature could change her course, she could do something so as to not exert himself and her overworked mind that day. She was in charge of his health now, she was would be mrs. Kapoor now. Strangely, even the thought of it made her stomach tingle with a promise of hope. And surprises, loads of it.
To be continued.
