I am confused, what are we debating here...

Is modernization good or bad?
Is westernization good or bad?
Is Indian cultural good or bad?

Thus is
self-independent good or bad?

Now coming to the topic of culture, basically protecting Indian culture, erosion of our culture, our cultural heritage, are all phrases much bandied now a days!. Is the meaning of Indian culture lost in a myth? Do we really understand what culture means, it consists of social behavior, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all of human work and thoughts or the the ways of living. It is simply how we life, and what we do in the course of this living and thus it's not static entity.  Everything around us changes, like seasons, technologies,  pattern of living, and so many other little factors changed our culture, because they changed our practices and the way we live. The change is adequate and necessary.  It is ever-changing and efforts to harness it at any point can only be futile. Why shouldn't we accept changes?

Anything that will help our society, alleviate poverty, make us more tolerant and open minded, empower women etc.. where ever it comes from, should be welcomed.  The problem is when people develop a superiority complex by aping the west and treat their native culture condescendingly.  Internalise the good things from the west.

Besides, India has been doing this for milleniums.  Invaders after invaders, migrations after migrations, people were subsumed into the Indian cultural fabric and also influencing the native culture.
OMG Empty ji...the Indians suffer from the worst case of superiority complex when it comes to Indian culture...they would not waste a second to put the western culture down...haven't u ever heard about humari sanskriti ...humare sanskar etc...

Blue-ice ji, its not all Indians, only some Indians have a superiority complex over Indian culture. Most Indians are proud of their history and culture, they ought to be, its just a few who take it over the top and give our culture and our cultural pride a bad reputation.

At the same time it is true that some Indians feel superior over their western adapted ways. There's plenty of NRI who always trash talk India. Many urban Indians tend to look down on rural indigenous Indians. Unfortunately, these few give all NRI or westernized Indians a bad reputation.

We should not hesitate to call out cultural superiority and diminishing other cultures to whoever is doing it. Everyone should be expected to hold all cultures with certain esteem and respect. There are pros and cons to all cultures and pride to be taken in one's heritage or ones life choices, but it never is an excuse to look down on someone whose culture and life is different.

No its not a few ...its a lot who have this superiority complex when it comes to the Indian culture...of course its less in the younger generation...because they are not aware of the indian culture as much...India does not consist of the metros only...70percent of India lives in small cities and rural areas who have no idea that the westerners are cultured and sensible people like us...they always look down on the western culture...
