Protective, Possessive and Proud of Gopi Aham Modi
Setting is that both Aham and Jigar have to bring their wives for a business get together. While Jigar is overjoyed, Aham is maha-annoyed. Both the Modi boys are drving in separate cars with their wives beside them. While the atmosphere in Jigar's car is easy and comfortable, the atmosphere in Aham's car is just the opposite.
So here is Aham driving with his nostrils flaring looking ever so dashing in his black suit with a pink shirt, while a lovely but scared Gopi in a baby pink sari sat beside him occassionally glancing at him with a worried expression.
Aham was holding onto the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were white. As he imagined the different embarrassing situations that could or would happen later in the party with Gopi, he couldn't help but wince.
They reached the venue, a 5-star hotel's ballroom where the get-together was held. Aham knew he had to behave as if Gopi was his wife. After all, everyone here knew he had a wife but what they did not know was, who his wife was and now they would. Aham saw that all the wives had their hands looped around their husband's arm. Even Rashi. He also knew he was suppose to give an impression. He took hold of Gopi's hand and put it around his arm.
Gopi looked at the ballroom in awe. It was magnificent. Everything looked so different and beautiful. For a moment she stopped worrying about her Ahamji's anger as she looked around. But soon was brought back to reality when she felt her Ahamji grabbing her hand and putting it around his arm. She was shocked beyond words and did not know how to react.
She then heard her Ahamji say,"Do what everyone is doing and please for once don't behave like a gawar that you are."
It stung everytime he said that. It really did. Somehow she never got used to that. Him calling her that was hurtful and it always brought tears to her eyes. But now it was not about her, it was about him. She should think about him and try to keep up his image. She was suppose to do what everyone was doing, she could handle that. She looked around and started observing. It was then when it dawned to her why her Ahamji made her hold him. She saw that the ladies were all smiling. She smiled.
Aham knew he was suppose to introduce his wife to the other businessmen just as they were doing. After getting introduced to around four different couples and observing their wives, Gopi soon realised that she was suppose to toss her hair and carress her earring as she spoke and also giggle a little. Two of the wives even shook her Ahamji's hand. She did not really like that but Ahamji's advice played in her head.
Aham hated those ladies. They were someone's wife and here they were being all flirtatious. He really hated it.
As he introduced Gopi to another businessman, he was shocked to see her shaking his hand. Gopi? Did she just extend her hand like how the other ladies did with him? And the son of a pig kissed her hand. How dare he! He looked over at Gopi. Although she was smiling, she looked uncomfortable. He quickly ended the conversation with his newest enemy and moved on to more people.
Another shock awaited Aham as he introduced Gopi to another businessman. Not only did Gopi shake this man's hand, she even tossed her hair, carressed her earring and giggle when he commented on how beautiful she looked. He did not like the tone he used nor did he liked Gopi's reaction. Couldn't this idiot see that i, the husband of this beautiful lady am standing right here?
But that was not the end, the bussinessman, encouraged by Gopi's reaction and not at all affected by Aham's scowl, asked Gopi to dance. He could feel Gopi tense up beside him. He knew these games. The businessman was clearly attracted to Gopi and might even be thinking of starting an affair. Most of the ladies here were like that.
Gopi had a hard time putting up the show. She was so uncomfortable when the man kissed her hand. Even Ahamji hasn't done that...yet. Now this man just called her beautiful. Even that Ahamji has never said...yet. Now dance? She looked around and saw that the other wives were dancing with other men. She really did not want to do it. The thought of having another man touching her was unimaginable. But her Ahamji asked her to do what everyone was doing. As it is he was angry, she did not want to anger him further. She took the man's hand praying to Kanhaji continuously. Ahamji really did not mind? Gopi was having second thoughts. She could feel that her Ahamji minded but what he said earlier? Gopi was confused and just decided to follow instructions instead of her instincts.
As he felt Gopi's hand slipping from his arm, and Gopi being led to the floor by the hand by the idiot businessman, his already bad mood became worst. But he did not miss the pleading look in Gopi's eyes as she looked at him one last time before being led away.
Aham watched furiously as the businessman placed Gopi's hand on his shoulder and then held her waist. They were swaying to the music.
Aham clenched his fist.
Gopi was hating this moment. She could feel the man holding her. She continued praying to Kanhaji. She was in such a position that she could not see her Ahamji.
Aham too was hating everything. How dare they kiss her hand? How dare they flirt with her? How dare they touched her? And Gopi! The nerve of that girl! She acted no different than all those other shameless wives. She was doing what everyone was doing. Suddenly it hit him. That was exactly what he asked her to do in the first place! No wonder she was so tensed and uncomfortable. He looked over at Gopi again.
That man was still holding her. He briskly walked over and tapped the man's shoulder. The man was clearly disappointed and reluctant to give Gopi's hand to him. But Aham was quick to grab it. He did not miss the relieve in Gopi's eyes. Something in him moved. He then brought Gopi's hand up to his lips and kissed her hand as sensually as he could as the man watched. Aham wanted to show both the idiots, Gopi and the businessman that doing all this was his and only his job. He then placed Gopi's hand on his shoulder and instead of leaving Gopi's hand and placing it on her waist, Aham just carressed his way down Gopi's arm till her bent elbow and then continued up her bicep down the side of her upper body, feeling the tightness of her blouse, and finally resting it on her bare waist, making sure the man got the message. When he looked back at Gopi, she had turned pink and was looking down. She did look beautiful, very beautiful. Aham pushed her closer to himself and started swaying to the music.
Gopi was extremely relieved when her Ahamji took her hand. Not just that, he kissed it. He kissed it for a long time and very differently unlike the man. It made her blush. Then he placed her hand on his shoulder. Then what was that? He touched her like no one else has done before. It scared her a little. But she rather have Ahamji here rather than some unknown man. After all her husband was Ahamji and whatever he did was just his right over her. This is what she had been taught. Husbands have a right over their wives. Besides, although he may hurt her with his words, Gopi felt much safer with him. Gopi felt her Ahamji pinching her waist lightly causing her to look up at him surprised.
Aham saw that his wife was lost. With his hand that was on her bare waist, he pinched her lightly and as expected she looked up at him with her huge eyes depicting the fact that she was surprised and worried.
He then bent down a little and started,"Gopi, answer me, and answer me honestly, if you were so uncomfortable with the other men, why were so friendly with them?"
Gopi felt like crying. Now she was confused. How exactly did he want her to behave? He asked her to answer him, despite her pounding heart, she looked up at him said,"I was trying to do what everyone else was doing."
"Because that was what i told you to do?" asked Aham.
Gopi just looked up at him with fearful eyes and nodded.
"That's okay. Now please forget i told you that. Now, i only want you to stand beside me. Shake hands only if the man initiates it. No tossing of hair or carressing of earring or giggling while talking. You can do all that while talking to me. But with them, a smile is enough. Understood?" explained Aham calmly.
It was a second before Aham realised what he just said. She could do all that while talking to him?! What the hell! Or is it that he wanted her to do all that while talking to him. Since when did he become so cheesy?
Now the fear in Gopi's eyes were replaced by surprise. She must have noticed it too. Once she nodded, Aham just looked above her head and continued swaying.
Soon the lights dimmed further and a more romantic music played. Aham felt someone tap him on his shoulder. It was another businessman. He just placed Gopi's other hand on his shoulder and placed his hand on her waist. He ignored the businessman. Now Gopi could almost hear her heartbeats.
She had just warmed up when her Ahamji placed her hand on his shoulder and his hands on her waist. Now both her hands were on his shoulders and both his hands were holding her waist. She could feel his grip. They were so close already but her Ahamji was bringing her closer, so much so that their bodies were touching. She did not dare look up.
As for Aham, he could feel Gopi trembling. She was nervous, maybe a little scared and uncomfortable. But right now, he rather have her here. He did not want anyone else looking at her wrongly. Besides she looked so different from the other ladies. Its no wonder why the men were interested. She looked fresh and young and lovely. Aham could not deny that. Aham even felt proud when he introduced her to the others and saw the reaction. But if they were looking at her disrespectfully, then no way is he showing her them. Yup she was safer here on the dancefloor, in the dark, with him.
Suddenly the room became bright and the spell broke. Aham was angry again. He left Gopi at first but then thought better of it and took her hand again thinking that she would do something stupid to seduce someone else.
But deep down he knew she wouldn't. He knew she would follow what he said. He also knew why he took her hand. It was because he felt protective of her, possessive, and of course proud to have her beside him as his wife.
See! Aham is sooo full of himself! He knows everything deep down but does not want to say! Idiot! Everything comes out as anger.
