Angad Hasija aka Shankar of Colors' Phulwa in a candid chat with Telly Buzz about his shows...
gave a an impeccable performance as the mentally challenged Alekh in Star Plus
and Rajan Shahi
. And today he portrays a diametrically opposite and challenging role of Shankar in Colors' Phulwa
produced by Siddharth Tewary.
Angad could definitely be called as one lucky actor who got to play two different and difficult roles in television.
In a candid chat with Telly Buzz, Angad Hasija
speaks about his experience Phulwa
along with his journey as an actor. You had a very interesting start in the television industry, how would you describe your journey?
feel lucky that I got to play such a wonderful role because normally in
daily soaps guys are given very subtle characters. And today I feel
even more lucky to get another tough role in Phulwa
.After portraying the mentally challenged Alekh, you are playing the tough Shankar; are you finding it a tough experience in Phulwa?
Of course it is tough because in Bidaai
the character was very calm and sweet and completely positive. But here
the character is out and out negative, the one which is in no way
connected to Angad. Also I had to work on the slang that village people
use. What were the preparations you did for the character?
wasn't any special training to prepare myself, but I had mentally
prepared myself for the character. It is about a normal guy who turns
out to be something else because of the tragedies that he has undergone.
When tragedy hits a person, it will either break him down or it makes
him evolve into a new person. Here the character evolved into a new
person. How is it working with Jannat Zubair Rahmani?
is a great actress and when I act with her I never feel that I am
working with a kid. Normally kids in the industry are very naughty and I
am really scared of them. But this girl is really matured of her age.
Actually we did not have much of off screen interaction. In the show you got married to a kid, were you reluctant when the track was introduced to you?
indeed I felt a little weird when I heard the story line and I felt a
little reluctant to do it in the beginning. But at the same time, I felt
the whole track different and interesting and thus I decided to take
it.This is your first time experience with Colors; how has it been?
I am having a great experience working with them. How has been the experience working with Siddharth Tewary?
am having a great time with him too. In the beginning I was a little
worried because this is my second show and I have never worked with a
Production House other than Rajan sirs'. It is really very important to
have a comfort level between you and the Production House because you
have to work with them every day. Fortunately I am having a great time
with Siddharth Tewary and the team and I feel really comfortable with
Shankar was shown to be a rough and tough guy. But
with the introduction of his family, we are seeing a different side to
the character. So how would you describe Shankar in simple words?
There is a depth in his character and is still more to be exposed about him.The rating of the show has been hovering around the two plus mark of late and not moving up. Is this a matter of concern?
at all, because we do not give a shot keeping in mind the ratings of
the show. I am sure people will like the show as it develops. What kind of a response have you got for the role of Shankar?
I was worried because the character is grey shaded. But viewers cannot
easily understand a grey shaded character as for them the character is
either negative or positive. But I am glad that they like it and I get
many mails and messages complimenting my role. At the same time they ask
me to be soft to the little girl.Any memorable moment from the show?
first shot that I gave for the show is the most memorable one for me
because the introduction of Shankar with a bare chest and the tough look
was a completely different Angad altogether. This is your first show after Bidaai, was it difficult for you to come out of the aura of Alekh as people still see you as Alekh?
they do call me Alekh because you get stamped once the character is
very popular. But today they have started calling me Shankar also which
makes me feel a bit weird because Shankar is the name of my massage man
(laughs). Are you still in touch with the cast of Bidaai?Yes of course. We have a party every month and we all are very much in touch with each other.Bidaai went off air when the ratings were good enough, was it a shock? It
was indeed a shock because normally a show goes off air when the TRPs
are not good enough. But here the show was giving good ratings and the
characters were also very popular. We were actually a family on the
sets. Who is your greatest inspiration? All my senior co actors are my inspiration. I got to learn a lot from Alok Nath ji and all the other senior actors.
Do you like being a part of reality shows?
If any good offers come by I would like to take it up. I think after Zara Nach Ke Dikha, I should do more of dancing.
