I recieved such overwhelming responses for this new FF that I decided to update with a character overview, to give you all a little insight into the story behind this FF. Thank you to those of you who replied with such positive & inspiring comments, it really does mean a lot.

The Handas
Darjee - a 60 year old strict, Punjabi man who upholds the very roots of patriarchal society. He is determined to ensure that everyone within his household abides by his rules. If they even dare to step out of line, all hell breaks loose.
Uncle-ji - The brother of Mohinderlal, the uncle of Geet & the father of Brij, Rajji & Tito. A 40 year old man who's life has never been the same since his dear brother was killed by Darjee. He has always resented his father in law for killing his brother off, but has been unable to speak out against him due to fear and gratitude for allowing him to stay under his roof.
Tayyi-ji - The 37 year old sister of Rano, the aunty of Geet, mother to Brij, Rajji & Tito. Although she grieves over her sister's unlawful killing, she agrees with the fact that women should not put themselves in positions like Rano did which go against the values & traditions of the family.
Brij Veerji - Geet's 21 year old cousin brother, the younger carbon copy of Darjee. His job is to keep his younger siblings in line, especially Geet & Rajji. He shows very little sympathy for Geet's orphanaged situation & sees her as a burden who should be married off soon.
Rajji - Geet's 15 year old cousin sister, probably the only person in the house who Geet feels close to. She is loyal to her elder cousin sister yet fears the wrath of Darjee. She is oblivious to the fact that Geet's parents' murder was arranged by Darjee.
Tito - Brij & Rajji's loveable 8 year old brother, Geet's cousin brother. He sees Geet as a mother figure to him & is very close to her.
Mohinderlal Handa - A young man who came from a very poor background. He fell in love with the beautiful Rano Handa who came from a middle class background. Their only daughter Geet was conceived out of wedlock, yet they secretly married in order to cover it up. Darjee, Rano's father was furious at first & proceeded to lash out at his daughter,. However, he appeared to have a change of heart & allowed Mohinder & Rano to stay under his roof once he found out Rano was pregnant. However, he had been plotting to separate them once Geet turned 6 years old. When the truth about their love affair came out 5 years later, & it was revealed that Geet was an illegitimate child, his fury got the better of him & he ordered for them both to be killed.
Rano Handa - The youngest daughter of Darjee who made the mistake of falling in love against her father's wishes. Once the truth came out a few years later, she met her grisly end along with her husband in a brutal murder, leaving their 5 year old daughter Geet behind.
Geet Handa - The 18 year old living existence of the tragic love story between Mohinder & Rano. Geet is oblivious to her parents' murder & has instead been told that they were killed off in an accident. She encounters hostility from Brij, who takes a dislike to her, & lives under the strict control of Darjee. The only thing she sees ahead of her is an impending marraige, the emphasis of which is placed on her everyday by Darjee, Tayyi-ji & Brij.
The Khuranas
Savitri Devi - a 60 year old woman, gracefully ageing yet still as youthful & beautiful as she used to be when she was younger. She brings up her two beloved grandsons, having experienced loss & grief along the way yet still strides to smile every day.
Maan Singh Khurana - The 22 year old angsty young businessman whose emotional scars show no signs of ever letting him free of the own web he feels trapped in. He carries a huge burden on his shoulders as he blames himself for something which happened 8 years ago. Although he is reassured by his beloved dadima that none of it was his fault, he can't help but feel responsible & shuts himself from the outside world, refusing to let anyone in.
Vicky Singh Khurana - the 19 year old wayward Khurana brother who shows no interest in the family business, as he seems content with his lifestyle of partying & girls. Yet he feels a strong love for his elder brother & like his dadima, wishes to see him smile again.
