The Daily Mail does indeed have a high readership, but they would be the last tabloid to give coverage to a Indian celebrity such as Sonam Kapoor. Aish gets coverage because she is an established name, whom even non-asian brits are aware of due to Miss World, and her cross-over films. Otherwise, Liz Jones and co are not the type to promote foreigners.

Sonam's still technically in the early stages of her career, and as she hasn't done anything to make an impact on non-asian brits, the Daily Mail will not mention her since they don't know who she is! Why would they? Having said that, she's had coverage by the BBC/Guardian and Independent in the past, so eventually you never know.

Today, as Anupama Chopra points out, the star power is much stronger and it's daunting. She's still connected to the industry. She is not spiteful so her criticism is taken seriously by industry people.

 

Masand is a small fish. He writes all this with the support of a group of journalists and twitterati. Also Manu Joseph, the editor of Open Magazine for which Masand writes the goss, is a powerful man now who excels in expose. Radia tapes, anyone?

If you take away Masand's support then he is still a nobody and that's why no one really cares about him. Shobhaa De mingles with the hoity-toity so it's also easy for her to continue her nastiness. It's just sad to see that even after all these years, she just cannot let go of few things. She needs to be nasty to at least a few to boost her ego. I pity her kind.
