After this past episode of "The Vampire Diaries," many of us are still sitting around with our jaw hanging on the floor. Jenna and Uncle John both ended up perishing during the sacrifice, leaving Nina Dobrev's Elena and Steven R. McQueen's Jeremy pretty much alone in terms of blood family.
The biggest shocker of all, though, is that the show is not done yet. We still have one final episode left in "As I Lay Dying," which focuses on someone immortal (Damon) having to come to terms with his mortality as he realizes that it will take a miracle to keep his werewolf bite from taking his life.Speaking about this episode, Dobrev at least gave a few hints about what we can expect this episode to deliver:
"The finale episode is like an homage to the characters. It's character-driven and about what's happened to them and how they deal with everything. Don't get me wrong: Of course, there's gonna be a cliffhanger. The show's not gonna end on a subtle note. We're still gonna end in a way that people need and have to come back to find out what happens next season, but in a different kind of way."
With both Klaus and Elijah still alive, we have to also remember that the shadow of these villains is going to hover over everything -- regardless of whether or not they actually end up appearing next week.

Nothing is more painful than goodbye.
On next Thursday's conclusion of what has become an epic season of The Vampire Diaries, a desperate Stefan goes to extreme lengths to prevent Damon's death.
Will he be successful? Will he pay a terrible personal price? Will Damon's own desperate bid to make amends with Elena result in a stunning romantic twist?
