NEW YORK (AP) — "Vampire Diaries" fans note: Nina Dobrev warns of a "gut-wrenching" season finale in which "people will die."
The actress says she was as surprised as anyone the key plotline involving a "sun and moon curse" turned out to be a ruse for character Klaus, who's scheming to become a vampire/werewolf hybrid.
She acknowledges it "broke her heart" to find out that much of what was written the past two seasons was "a big joke." But she also thinks it was a clever move to make Klaus appear more diabolical.
Dobrev says she hasn't been told, but "it's assumed" she will eventually have to play a third character — the original to the two doppelgangers she currently plays.
The "Diaries" finale airs on the CW network on May 12.

May 4, 2011 - The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev has revealed that at the end of the season people are going to die and it's going to be very sad, especially on one particular upcoming episode.
In an interview with the AP, Nina, who plays both, human girl Elena and bad-ass vamp Katherine on the popular hit series, sounds hoarse from a cold and is bundled up with a scarf. However, that did not stop her from speaking out on what we can expect on the last two episodes of the season.

"The sacrifice is coming up, people are going to die," Nina explained, "It's a heartbreaking, gut wrenching, horrible, tear jerking episode that's forthcoming. There's gonna be a lot of tears."
Nina also talked about the big sun and moon curse build-up and how we were just told it was all a joke, made up by evil Original vampire Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies).
When the cast read the script they couldn't believe that it had all been for nothing, "I was heartbroken," Nina said, but she also thinks it was a good idea in part of the writers.

"It was clever when you think about it," Nina admitted, "It makes Klaus that much smarter and ahead of the game."
As we left off on last week's episode, the sacrifice was about to begin and Jenna (Sarah Canning) had been killed by Klaus and brought back as a vampire. Elena had been forced-fed Damon's blood so that if she died she could come back, an impulsive act by Damon, that he regretted right after committing it.

Tyler was transitioning into his werewolf form, during which he accidentally bit Damon, a fatal curse, as far as they all know. Matt (Zach Roerig) had just killed one of Klaus' witches and was helping Caroline (Candice Accola) stay safe.
So, when the sacrifice begins on the next episode it will also be the beginning of a very emotional time on The Vampire Diaries. What will happen to Damon? Will Elena be sacrifiiced? What about Jenna? Unfortunately, whatever happens, it will be sad and probably also shocking, so brace yourselves and let's hope our favorites survive!
