MUMBAI: Colors has decided to take Star Plus head-on at the 7.30 pm band.

Starting 25 April, the channel is launching a light-hearted daily soap, Sasural Simar Ka. The show will be in direct competition with genre leader Star Plus' Sasural Genda Phool, another light-hearted daily soap.

Colors programming head Ashvini Yardi says, "Sasural Simar Ka reflects a new social wave where a young woman is suppressed in her maika and is in a dilemma of her new life at her sasural and her ongoing passion to dance. In the society we live, while this may be a minority, we hope to replicate and relate the story to households and young women who are faced with a similar situation where their ambitions and passions are jeopardized. I am sure the show will break through the clutter on the conventional melodrama and ensure a content experience to the viewers."

The show, produced by Sunrise Productions, will replace Rishton Se Badi Pratha which was launched on 15 November.

Sunrise Productions' Rashmi Sharma adds, "Sasural Simar Ka will be a compelling watch for viewers who appreciate light-hearted entertainment. We have deliberately stayed away from stereotypes and have etched characters that are lovable and believable. The lead character Simar (played by Deepika Samson) will resonate with any young Indian girl living in a metro or a small city. Viewers will rejoice to see their favourite Avika Gor (Balika Vadhu's Anandi) play the protagonist's younger sister, Roli who is her friend, philosopher and guide."

The cast of the show includes Pankaj Dheer, Himani Shivpuri and Jayati Bhatia among others.

Sasural Simar Ka is the journey of a young ordinary small town girl from Vrindavan, who dreams of becoming a dancing star. Grown up in a middle class family, she is highly enriched with morals and values under her father's discipline and far from achieving her dreams. His teachings have enhanced her with strong values and rooted her deep in culture. Her love for her father is unconditional and vice versa. The chirpy and joyous girl is well prepared to continue living under her husband's shadow in future.
