This one's an old one I had kept hidden away. 😉
Lauren's phone rang in the middle of dinner. She sighed
in relief as she
looked up at her date, smiling apologetically as she got her phone out.
It was Nadine. Her best friend. Thank God! This date wasn't going as
planned. All the guy could talk about his work. And what did he work as?
A plumber! So all night she heard him go on about sewers, blocked
sinks and other ghastly things that he had to unblock. She wa surprised
that he kept her dinner down!
Clearly she was glad of a distraction so she answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Loz!" she sounded panicked "it's me!"
"Nads? What is it?" She asked "why are you.."
"It's Dunk!" she said. Duncan was her best friend. They had been best
friends since they were kids. You couldn't tear the two of them apart.
"Dunk?!" she exclaimed, worriedly "What about him? What's happened?"
"He's been in an accident and now he's unconcious and I don't.."
"Unconcious?!" Lauren cut her off.
"Yeah, I don't know what to do" Nadine cried worriedly, it was her
brother after all.
"Where is he?" she asked
"In hospital" she said
"I'm coming!" she said and ended the call, jumping up and giving a
feeble aplogy to her "date" before rushing out.
"Duncan!" she shouted at the receptionist. Duncan James! Where is he?!"
she demanded.
Okay, so maybe she shouldn't have screamed like that, but the
receptionist didn't seem annoyed or angry. She was used to people
screaming at her incessantly.
"Room 4 but.." she tried to speak but Lauren cut her off.
"Thanks" she ran off in search of it.
She spotted Nadine and ran down the corridor, narrowly missing a
guerney.
"Nads!" she exclaimed
"Oh Loz! Thank God!" she sighed
"Where is he?! What happened?!"
"He's in there" she pointed to a room and Lauren looked through the
window to see nurses and doctors running around, stood in front of
Duncan's bed.
"What happened to him?"
"He was on his motorbike and.."
"The stupid idiot!" she exclaimed "I told him to sell it! I told him!"
she exclaimed
"has the doctor said anything?" she asked
"They said that his chances of survival are low" she cried,
"What?!" she exclaimed
"Yeah" she said and Lauren rubbed her back gently.
"I'll see about that!" she said pushing the door open and walked in,
without a care in the world.
"Madam! You can't come in here!" the nurse told her but Lauren ignored
her.
"Get her out of here!" the doctor ordered
"Hold on!" she told them, annoyed
"Duncan James!" she shouted at him as if he could hear her "I swear to
God, if you do not wake up this instant I will
force a needle so far down your throat you'll wish you never even
thought about buying that damn bike!" she told his unconcious body.
"Madam.." the nurse began, about to lead her out.
"Hold on!" she exclaimed and turned back to him. "you have until the
count of 3 to wake up!" she told him "1...." she began and folded her
arms. "2..." she counted "I swear, I'll make your life a living hell if
you don't get up!" she told him and his eyes flickered. "good!" she said
seeing him open her eyes to see her. She walked out of the room. "he's
awake. Go and see how he is" she said childishly
"Okay" Nadine smiled
"And be sure to tell him I am never speaking to him again!" she called
"I'll tell him" she chuckled and made her way into the room.
Lauren turned to look into the window and saw Duncan looking at her and
smiling. She turned away in a sulk.
"Lozzie?" Nadine approached the door.
"Yeah?"
"He's telling you to come in"
"Tell him I don't want to be in the same room as him"
"I have but he said if you don't come in then he'll get on his bike and
have another accident" she chuckled
"I don't care" she shrugged
"But what if my legs broke?" he called and Lauren turned to him.
"Then it'd serve you right!" she told him
"Stop throwing a fit and come in Lozzie!"
"No way!" she told him. "I don't wanna be anywhere near you" she turned
away.
"Fine" he shrugged "your loss. I'll find someone else to beat the hell
out of in Need for Speed" he said casually, knowing it would cause a
reaction.
"Excuse me?!" she exclaimed walking into the room, past Nadine "I kicked
your butt last week! Have you forgotten so quickly?!"
"You didn't kick my butt! I let you win!"
"Oh yeah, that's what any guy who gets his backside kicked by a girl
says to
keep his dignity!" she said sarcastically.
"Are they always like this?" a nurse asked Nadine, who chuckled as
Duncan and Lauren continued to argue.
"Always" she smiled.
"Watch! When I get out of here I'll show you how I kick your backside!"
He
told her
"Yeah, we'll see monkey boy" she smiled smugly.
"Argh" Duncan winced as he tried to sit forward.
"Does it hurt Dunk?" Nadine asked worriedly.
"Yeah" he nodded
"Yeah? Well, serves you right for not listening to me!" Lauren told him
smugly
"Nurse, can you give her something to shut her up please!" he sighed and
the nurse laughed.
"Excuse me!" she exclaimed
"Here we go!" Duncan sighed
"Don't here we go me! Some of us left a date to come here and see you!"
"Oh really?" he asked teasingly
"Yeah!"
"What's the guy like then?" he asked
"A bore but that's not the point!" she told him and he laughed.
"See! I saved you from a night of boredom. You're welcome" he said
smugly
"Nurse, give him some morphine because I'm gonna be issuing a lot of
pain!"rse and Nadine smiled
"You couldn't issue a library book!" he countered
"What the hell?!" she laughed at his issue of a comeback. "you'd better
check for concussion
aswell!" she told the nurse, laughing.
"Someone please! Give this girl some cellotape and shut her up!" he
sighed and Nadine laughed.
"Nads!" Lauren exclaimed and Duncan laughed too as Lauren gave him a
look.
"What?!" she chuckled "I'm not laughing at that comment!" she assured
Lauren.
"Then what were you laughing at?!" she asked her best friend.
"I was laughing at the fact that you had to shout at him out of
conciousness!"
"Yeah, well. Nothing else was working" she told her
"A little peace and quiet would've worked" Duncan chipped in.
"You don't deserve peace and quiet and FYI: why am I always bailing you
out?"
"Because your life revolves around me!" he told her happily.
"Hah! That's what you think!" She snorted
"Not think, I know! And it has done for the last two years!" He reminded
her.
"There's a huge difference between life revolving and rescuing you for
everything that happens" she told him, smiling.
Tell me what you think so far girls 😉
