Nivi needs to know that Viren loves her and he has to express it in words. He never gave her any reason to think so. Viren's smile or actions could be interpreted in a different way by Nivi. She knows that Viren feels bad for whatever he did to her, but she being the selfless person does not want to be in his life if he doesn't love her. She is doing the opposite of what Divya did to Sid.
