Was Jhalak' rigged?
Audiences say they are not idiots and that this is not the first time Sony has done this. "Even in the first season of the dance reality show, Shweta Salve was a far superior dancer and she totally outclassed Mona Singh's performance in the final round.
Despite that Shweta had to be content with second place, simply because Mona was a Sony favourite right from 'Jassi..' days. And now they have done it again," says viewer Girija Ramachandran.
Let's get back to Season Four.
In week 5, Krushna Abhishek was ousted from the competition, based on the claim that Shekhar and Mahee got more votes than he did. A patent impossibility, given the level of their performance. As one viewer put it, "Krushna was better than both of them put together!"
Earlier, Krushna had even hinted at the possibility of him being shown the door. And so it turned out.
The departure of Anushka Manchanda, Renuka Shahane and Akhil Kumar looked inevitable from the first episode.
Again, in week 6, Yana was ousted with the same reason being given ' that Ragini got more votes. This too seemed unbelievable. Even the judges looked aghast. Yana is a stunning dancer and showed some great moves. In fact, she was considered the hottest item number specialist on screen.
When it came to the last round, it was hard to believe that Chang, who had got the lowest marks from the judges in the first round, since the so-called 'salsa' he performed bore no resemblance to salsa, had actually won the competition! No one will deny that his performance had improved over the weeks, but Sushant was by far the better dancer and was the audience favourite too.
So who were all those hordes who supposedly voted for Chang?
Many are now beginning to demand that in the next season, the channel must show proof of audience votes if they still want to retain their credibility. Merely announcing that a contestant got "more votes" will no longer convince anyone.
Viewers are pointing out that if the channel has a policy of choosing non-dancers as winners, then they need to clearly state that the competition is open to amateurs only.
Meanwhile, Chang revels in his triumph while Sushant tries to hide his bitter disappointment and telly watchers wonder what will happen when the next season comes along'
