Gardes,

Glad to know your family is ok.  I feel really bad for the loss of lives.  Despite so much progress, human beings can not conquer the nature.

Thank you all for posting your thoughts and prayers for the Japanese people and also for expressing your concerns about my family members.

10 months ago to the day I was in Hiroshima and I had to walk out of the museum there because the thought of what people went through was SO overwhelming and nauseating.  The pain and suffering was hard to imagine and the thought at the time was that man is man's worst enemy!  But that the Japanese are also a resilient nation and look how they bounced back after WW II.

Today, when I see the footage on TV, the destruction is also too overwhelming to watch and wonder what these people are going through and how much more can they take?  But the Japanese people will regroup and pull through like they did so many decades ago.

I am always in awe of nature and whatever man can try, nature always has an upper hand.  Man can build to minimize damage from earthquakes, but it takes an unpredictable tsunami to let man know that nature is in charge.  That is one of the lessons our Eastern religions and cultures teach us - to respect nature!

Prayer for Earthquake And Tsunami Victims:-

Most merciful and compassionate God,
Giver of Life and Love,
hear our prayers
and let our cries come unto you.

We weep with your people in Japan
We hear the cries of orphaned children and laments of bereaved parents
We feel the desperation of those searching for loved ones
We behold the silence of vanished villages.

We see the devastation.
We are overwhelmed by the enormity of it all.
Our hearts are hushed, our minds are numb.
Let not our hands be stopped, our voices dumb.

God of the universe,
Open our hearts to feel your compassion
Galvanize in us the act of continued giving
Bond us to our sisters and brothers in need
Comfort and heal the injured, the bereaved, the lost
Strengthen the aid workers and medical personnel
Bolster the resolve of governments and those with power to help
Open through this tragedy pathways to partnerships and peace
In Your Name of mercy and healing and compassion we pray.''

30  of my young countrymen are teaching English as second language in Japan,
A couple others were studying and working.Took some days, but now all are accounted for.👍🏼
Two have returned home ,others say they are contracted by the Japanese Gov't ,
Some say they situated way inland, not in any danger ,We now know how many are
domiciled in the Land Of The Rising Sun and who visit there frequently businesswise,

For sure this Big Blue Marble is getting smaller,
but packs a Powerful Punch  !

Please everyone we can still offer our prayer ,,,,,,

Shanta, thanks for posting the beautiful prayer.

It is good to know that your fellow citizens are safe and sound.  As the toll rises and the nuclear disaster's effects come to light, all we can do is pray that what happened in Japan does not repeat anywwhere else.

We also need to learn to respect nature's boundaries.  Earth Day is coming up soon and we can add our efforts in to saving our planet.  It is doable, a little effort here and there is all it takes!

I am sorry I missed this thread earlier 😔
Thanks Gardes for starting this post. I am glad your family is OK.
Thanks Shanta for the beautiful prayers and all others who have posted beautiful pictures and thoughts.
I have a very close friend who is originally from Japan and whose family members live south of the epicenter. Luckily they were unharmed, but have a tough road ahead of them because of all the property damage.
Believe it or not there is a CB connection with this earthquake. A very close family member of Avinash lives in Japan. They are fine but are  affected by the aftermath.
Japanese people are very resilient and with all our collective prayers, they will emerge out of this calamity.

gardes, I am feeling exactly how you are feeling....because our whole family had gone for a vacation to japan in 1993....and pretty much we traveled the same area where the disaster has struck....I have such lasting memories of Japan mainly because of the people, the system, service and cleanliness...I could not believe also that how Japan overcame the nuclear attack and came out ahead than any other country...my God Japanese people are so hardworking...so polite and the cleanliness is built into their religion...even 1993 it was far advanced than America in many ways.  My heart breaks to see this kind of nature disaster...proves time and time again that how impermanent life is...we all take things for granted....fight for the silliest pocession...but the reality is that we can loose everything....in a blink of an eye...May God give strenth to the families who have lost their dear ones....my prayers are with them.
