a film running for 15 years is not a joke...it is a gud film...rather a simple luv story which people still connect to...

i remember watching an interview of the owner of Marath Mandir where he said tat the audience have requested him not to remove the film from the theatre(this was wen DDLJ completed 10 yrs)....

detractors say that YRF have paid the theatre owner to keep the film running...LOL

as far as housefull or not is concerned...during the vacations n festive season it is housefull, rest not a full house

I love it!!!! The chemistry, the romance, the comedy and the action, my kind of film which reminds me I might watch it soon.

It's pure.
It's not overly styled with all of the characters seemingly too focused on appearing cool, hip, urban examples of the New India. It's about two basically good hearted kids who fall in love.
Even when the Raj character is trying to seem "cool" it's done in a way that tells the audience we are free to laugh at his labored attempts at being a knowing man about town. Because of that we can love him for his vulnerability and identify with the childishly stupid choices this patently good hearted young chap makes in pursuit of his girl.

Simran appeals to anyone who tries so hard to do the "right" thing yet is torn by her desire to do the thing she feels is right.
Not least is that both the leads actually look like US or like people we know. They are relatable.

Even though it's an NRI love story it doesn't disparage India and Indianness, in fact it makes something of a fetish of it unlike Bollywood's modern hyper-polished post Johar KKHH/K3G/KHNH films which worship anything slick and Western from the smart-ass disaffected brat dialogue of the principal characters to bland, sterile settings and heroines bodies which have been turned into attenuated, oiled and streamlined model forms with no connection to the old fashioned functions of bearing children and spending the years together. Todays films seem to applaud the ability to spend a night together and move on.

DDLJ is the romance I think most of us dream of when we imagine falling in love. Someone who will give more than just a scripted wisecrack for us and for whom we would leave everything knowing we would be safe forever.
And if I can be safe forever in the arms of a young and sweet looking SRK...so much the better!
