Athwani, Sahani recall Wife Bina Life experience

Wife Bina Life has been a life changing experience for all the husbands who participated in it, as they got the opportunity to renew and strengthen their bond with their spouse and children.

STARONE.IN

They also realised how much effort their wives put in to manage the household. We caught up with two of the most popular participants -Mr. Vijay Athwani and Mr. Sanjay Sahani, who were eliminated last weekend. Here they recall their journey and share their best and worst moments on the show.

VIJAY ATHWANI

How was the experience of managing three kids at once?

It was difficult especially because they belonged to three different age groups. Dhruv is seven, Vidhi is ten and Shashank is thirteen years old. Each of them threw different kind of tantrums and had different requirements. I had a tough time but sailed through.

With what did you struggle with the most?

My intention was to be friends with the kids and perhaps that's why I did not have to struggle much. The kids are well behaved but Dhruv did trouble me a bit, initially. He locked himself inside the house when all of us went out, so that was a difficult situation.

Now are you confident of plaiting your daughter's hair?

[smiles] Yes, now I am confident about plaiting Vidhi's hair. She is happy too when I do it.

You had never made tea in the past 15 years, what is your proud accomplishment in this show?

Besides making tea, which I did, I learnt to prepare proper meal. Besides that, I feel now I understand my wife better. I appreciate the small and big things she does for us. I participated in this show for fun but I never expected it to turn into a big deal. Wife Bina Life has taught me loads about my family and life and has made me more mature.

Can you manage the household now, if your wife isn't at home?

Sure. I am now confident of managing the household after my experience in Wife Bina Life.

The children thought you were a strict father and you didn't have a great bond with them. Has their perception of you changed?

The perception of the kids has definitely changed a lot. I have now become much closer to them. We share, we talk, we laugh and we play together too.

What will you carry back with you from the WBL experience?

I learnt that I should respect my wife as managing the household is not an easy task. I think every husband should appreciate what his wife or women in his house accomplish everyday.

What were your best and worst moments on the show?

The best moment on the show was decorating the room for Pooja's welcome. The worst moment was to wash vessels as it was really difficult (laughs).

When did you miss your wife the most?

I missed my wife everyday. The moment I used to get up, the one thing, I used to miss the most was the bed-tea that she serves me every morning. Everyday began with thinking of her.

How will you contribute in your household chores now?

I will help her with shopping, selecting clothes and also doing household work.

What did you learn about your kids that you didn't know earlier?

I learnt that kids are sensitive and that smallest of issues can trigger mood swings and varied responses, which isn't good for their development. That is the one major thing I learnt. It is important to be friends with your child, to enable overall development and a healthy groW*H.

SANJAY SAHANI

You used to get angry with your wife when she was late because of some chores. What do you think of such delays now?

[Smiles] I now feel that the delay is justified. I think that she manages the household in the right way.

Was it tough to manage your temper and not scold Akshat?

Initially, it was difficult to control my temper but once we bonded and worked through few days, we came closer and it was easier. I don't think it was tough to control my temper.

What was the smartest trick you used on the show to get Akshat to do what you wanted?

According to me, the best tactic I used was hiding his toys and not allowing him to watch his favourite movies. That always worked.

Do you feel your bond with your child has grown stronger?

Our bond has undoubtedly become thousand times stronger after this show. I am thankful to Wife Bina Life for this opportunity that brought us closer as a family.

Were you able to maintain your standard of cleanliness- as you do in your regular life?

Yes, I did manage to maintain my standard of cleanliness to a certain extent.

How did it feel to be the Papa Of The Week?

Being Papa of the week was awesome. It was a big surprise for me and winning the title really felt good.

What was the most emotional moment for you?

The most emotional moment which I mentioned on the show too, was when I saw Akshat having a good time with his friends.

What will you carry back with you from the WBL experience?

I learnt to be patient because of this show. I also renewed my relationship with my son which is my biggest achievement on the show.

What were your best and worst moments on the show?

Best moment is difficult to choose but I would say winning the title of Papa of the week. Worst moment was when Akshat's friends came over. The initial half an hour of managing them was very tough.

When did you miss your wife the most?

I missed her on many occasions and can't pinpoint just one. I realised how tough it is to take care of guests which my wife does so well. She makes it seem effortless. Within no time, she serves everyone which after being on the show I realised is a very tough thing to do.

How will you contribute in your household chores now?

I will help my wife in whatever way I can. Right from chopping vegetables to washing clothes in the machine, I will continue to help her.

What did you learn about your kids that you didn't know earlier?

I learnt that it is important to have a good and strong relationship with your child.

Cyrus Sahukar and Mini Mathur

Indian TV viewers have watched childless celebrity couples deal with children on Imagine TV's Pati Patni Aur Woh. Now they will get to see how men behave when they are forced to become homemakers when their wives decide to take time off from their traditional role in a new reality series that is slated to go into production for Star Plus later this month called Wife Bina Life.

The show is being produced by BBC Worldwide Entertainment and is a desi adaptation of a Canadian show 'The Week The Women Went.' The location according to sources is in Pune. Wife Bina Life will have a limited run and will be completed in 16 episodes. Sources indicate that the show will be hosted by Mini Mathur and Cyrus Sahukar.

In the Canadian version, which has had a two season run, all the women in an ordinary Canadian town disappear for a week leaving the men and children to cope on their own. For most of the men, cooking a healthy meal for their kids, doing the dishes and finishing the laundry is something that is extremely foreign. Once their wives head out for a relaxing week-long break, the men find out just how hectic a woman's daily schedule really is.

A source points out that Wife Bina Life will have 10 real couples that is mainly commoners as participants. Celebrities will make special appearances as guests to meet them. And the wives, well they will be all having fun in a resort, while hubby dear finds out what it is to do all the household stuff, including baby-sitting without any help on hand.

All efforts to reach channel officials remained futile, with one of them saying that the show is in the pipeline without giving any details. We called an official from BBC who flatly refused to comment on this saying its not the right time. While Sahukar did not want to speak at all, Mini remained unavailable to comment.

Abbas Parekh is feeling super confident

STARONE.IN

STAR Plus' weekend reality show Wife Bina Life is gearing up for the finale episode this weekend with the three finalists – Rohit Dutta, Arvind Patil and Abbas Parekh.

STARONE.IN

We spoke to Abbas Parekh about his eventful journey on the show. Parekh gets candid about what he learnt and enjoyed on the show.

What have you learnt from your experience on Wife Bina Life?
I have learnt a lot. I learnt that your wife is the lifeline of the house. She is the one that keeps everyone and everything together in life. I also learnt to be patient in certain situations.

What does the concept Wife Bina Life mean to you now?
It means a lot. Wife is a huge support in the house and you can't live without her. I have really understood the true meaning and role of a wife. I would like to tell people please don't underestimate your wife because she works harder than you.

What is better: a 9-5 job or being a housewife?
In today's times, I think no job is just 9 to 5. But I will say that at work our jobs end at some time, later or early in the day but a housewife works 24x7. That is undoubtedly harder.

What were your high and low points in the show?
My high point was my confidence level. While there were many times when I felt low as I missed my wife. My lowest was when I missed her on her birthday for the first time in life.

What have you learnt – regarding household work through this show?
I learnt that cooking isn't a piece of cake and time management is tough.

What changes do you see in yourself post this experience?
Now, I can cook food especially Kadhi Chawal. I am more confident in the kitchen than I was earlier. On Sundays, I plan to cook food for my loved ones.

How will you start pitching in the house post this?
I will start helping my wife in her household work. That will not only give me immense happiness but her as well. We will divide the work among us.

Toughest task was …
I was told to cook Maharashtrian dishes. At first, I was little nervous because I had never heard about any Maharashtrian dish and was also told not to refer any book, but I somehow managed it.

Easiest task was….
Filling up the water buckets. It was so simple.

What do you appreciate the most in your wife now?
I appreciate everything in my wife. I valued her before the show and realise how much she does for me and my family. The way she handles my home is brilliant and I am lucky to have a wife like her.

What did you miss the most about your wife?
I missed everything about her and became very emotional when I saw her after a long time.

What did you learn about your kids that you didn't already know earlier?
I have always been very close to my daughter Mahek but through this show, I have become more close to her. The one thing I learnt was that she is very emotional regarding me and her mom. She is a very sweet girl and I am proud to be her father.

How does it feel to be in the finals?
It feels great to be in the top 3 and now I am looking forward to the finale.

Did you expect to come this far?
Oh yes, I was confident that I would do very well in the show.

Who is your toughest competitor?
Dutta and Patil have worked very hard and both are my tough competitors.

No life without wife says Arvind Patil

STARONE.IN

As Wife Bina Life gets set for its finale episode we catch up with one of the finalists, Arvind Patil. The most daring of them all, Arvind Patil became a finalist on the show, without any assistance from a domestic help [maid]. He tells us he had full faith in himself and the work cut out for him. Talking candidly, Patil relives his journey with us.

STARONE.IN

How did you implement your systematic approach to life theory while managing home and kids?
Everything requires planning and so for managing home and kids, I made a plan which worked out fine. I didn't want any problems due to mismanagement and so I used to get up at 5.30 am and finish most of my kitchen work by 7.30 am. Then I had enough time to devote to other things in the day.

Would you say you were able to complete most jobs perfectly, as is your nature?
I believe in perfection and whatever I do has no error, especially tackling the house and kids without any other support. I think I was 100% successful in that.

You are obsessed with time and like to be punctual, were you able to keep up and deliver on time?
I am not at all obsessed with being punctual but I also don't want things to be delayed. Whatever work is allotted to you, you need to wrap it up in time. I don't like making others wait.

Mrs. Patil was worried that you would do such a good job that the kids won't need her after the show ends as they will be very happy with you. Do you concur?
Earlier, the kids were close to their mother and now I would say we are all closer to each other. In fact she is happy that we all have such a great emotional bonding. We are a complete, happy family.

What have you learnt from the Wife Bina Life experience?
Before entering the show, like all married men, I used to depend on my wife for everything at home. But during the show, I really missed my wife and experienced a vacuum in my life. I have learnt that a wife's job is very demanding and one should always be grateful to wives who work nonstop, 24x7.

What does the concept Wife Bina Life mean to you now?
It means that life won't exist without a wife. To run a family, wife is very important as nothing is normal in life without a wife.

What is better: a 9-5 job or being a housewife?
Both are different things. While a 9 to 5 job has its own stress, it can't be compared with the job of a housewife. I think both are linked together and essential for a house to run smoothly. In a family one person needs to earn and one person has to look after the household responsibilities. It is very difficult to choose one over the other.

What were your high and low points in the show?
I felt really good about myself as I didn't take any help from a maid to run or clean the house. It was my high point in the entire experience. I wanted to experience everything on my own. I think I managed pretty well. As for any low point, I don't think I had any.

What have you learnt – regarding household work through this show?
I have learnt how to manage a house properly and how to focus on the minute details. Many minor things in house add up to loads of work but keep the house functioning well. We might neglect them sometimes but on the show, I learnt to keep track of every detail in the house like grocery in the kitchen, cleaning up after cooking, etc.

What changes do you see in yourself post this experience?
Now I plan to help my wife in the morning when she is most busy. We will get the kids ready in the morning - from bathing to feeding them to their clothes. We can divide that work or I can manage that on my own too as Sheetal would be busy preparing breakfast for them. Then I would drop them to their schools and go for my work. I have decided to make such changes in my life after this show.

Toughest task was …
Cooking different dishes like the Punjabi meal. I made Dal Makhani, Harabhara Kabab which I had eaten earlier. We didn't have recipes to refer so it was tough.

Easiest task was….
To keep the house clean. It was the easiest task as I love cleanliness.

What do you appreciate the most in your wife now?
The way she works and manages us all. I am really happy to get a wife like her.

What did you miss the most about your wife?
I missed her presence and I find that very difficult to express in words.

What did you learn about your kids that you didn't already know earlier?
I was always very close to my kids so there was nothing new that I learnt during the show. But I will say one thing that my younger son troubled me a lot, which I didn't expect.

How do you feel to be in the finals?
I am lucky to be in the finale and it feels great. I am looking forward to the end result.

Did you expect to come this far?
Yes. I had expected that after all the hard work, I would be in the finale because I managed two kids without any house help which is very tough and every housewife will tell you that.

Who is your toughest competitor?
I don't believe in competition as everyone has their good and bad sides. I have done my job well and I am happy with myself. So I will be happy with the result of the show as well.

Don't forget to catch the exciting finale of Wife Bina Life on Sat, March 12 only on STAR Plus
