A still from Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna
Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna, the new show that started on February 1, is a high emotion love-saga. Talking about the serial.

Saurabh Tewari, Head Programming — Fiction, Imagine TV, told BT, "This show is a slice of life story about a UP girl Nirupama, who falls in love with a Mumbai-boy Chandu. The plot revolves around how two people of various sections, cultures, backgrounds and socio-economic status fall in love and the problems they face and how they overcome them.

We are optimistic that this unique story will surely resonate with the viewers." Will love blossom for Niru and Chandu? Will they be able to live their 'happily-ever-after' dream? Does life hold any more surprises in store for them? Will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their path? Can they find their way out of hatred and into love?

'I hope people like my new look and attitude' - Kapil Nirmal

Monday, February 07, 2011 | 9:14:41 PM IST (+05:30 GMT)   Comments 44 Comments 'I hope people like my new look and attitude' - Kapil Nirmal

Kapil Nirmal popularly known as Yudhishtir of Star Plus' Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat will be seen in a new avtar in Imagine TV's new show Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna

He entered into the television industry as the elegant and the royal Kunwar Yudhishtir with the popular show Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat. But what if the Prince turns into the most notorious person in the area? Surprised?

Kapil Nirmal turns into the grey shaded Sarje Rao in Imagine and Reliance Big Productions' debut venture Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna which recently..

In this space, Kapil discusses about his interesting role and look in the new show...

Can you tell us something about your character?
The character has a grey shade who is completely outspoken and has his own way of making a name in the society. He loves his mother and younger brother but at the same time has a friction with his father. He wants to take care of his family, but the ways of making his living is not so acceptable with the family.

This is your comeback in television after a long break; what took you so long?
For Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat we had continuously worked for nearly three years and after that several shows were offered to me. But all the roles were of the same kind with the royal and decent look, which had restricted me to take it up. Also I was in a vacation mood wherein I met a lot of people and fortunately or unfortunately, the break was good.

What was the reason that you took up Pardes?
When the show was first narrated to me with Sarje Rao's character sketch, I felt that somewhere down the lane I was waiting for such a role which was a little bit different from the lead, but I cannot say how different, because there are a lot of shows on television now, and at times the characters also resemble each other. But then the character I am playing is of a Marathi boy who speaks a language which I do not know. I am staying in Mumbai and I knew that there will be a lot to learn from this character from the way he talks to his mom, fight swith his father and the amount of love he has for his brother and several other similar things. It was interesting to learn a new language and I feel that since I am staying in Mumbai I should know the language. And I think this is going to help me a lot.

Have you had special sessions for Marathi?
Not really, but nowadays I am watching Marathi movies and channels and in the initial stage I have to understand the language to gradually get the hold of it. By the grace of God, actors who play my mother and father belong to the theater and have years of experience and I think it is going to help me a lot.

How do you feel about your different look?
In my previous show I had to wear suits because the character demanded it and I had a little problem during summer. But now, I don't think such a problem will arise in this show because I can take off the shirt whenever I want (laughs). The look is really casual and I really didn't have to do anything about my hair because I just had to grow it and let it loose, in a completely messy way.

What have been the reactions of your fans?
There are a few who I am in touch with and they have appreciated me for the new look and the work, but at the same time they criticize too when needed. Hence I think they will like it.

Why did you opt a show on Imagine TV?
There is a challenge in it because as an actor we have the main effort to perform really well and when the work is doing well and the show is recognized, it will be a credit as actors too. It also tells us how good we are and also gives us a chance to learn about the aspects where we have to improve.

This is the first time that Reliance Big Productions is venturing into production, how has been the experience working with them?
Reliance is one brand that is there everywhere in India and they have already ventured into media with their radio station and also films. And now we are hoping that we do shine in television too and we are just praying.

What is your opinion about the 10:30pm slot?
I feel that the best time for a daily is between 9 and 10; the rest depends on the shows because Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat was in the 8 pm slot which was really early for office goers who cannot reach home by then. Today there are shows that do well even in the 7 and 7:30 slot. Our slot is 10:30; I just hope we do well in the slot.

Was it tough to transport yourself from Yudhishtir to Sarjerao?
What I have noticed in television is that people expect you to appear in one role opposite one girl. And sometimes it so happens that the fans are not ready to accept the person in any other role, but as actors we have to take up various challenges. Initially it was a little tough. But today there are actors who do different roles in different shows and people have started accepting them. So I am just wishing they accept this too.

People are still demanding the hit pair of Kapil and Anjali Abrol; what would you like to say to your fans?
We both would like to work together and there is no doubt about it but then it is the final decision of the Production and most importantly the channel.

Will there be a girl opposite to you in the show?
I cannot comment on that.

Are there any plans of you to take up more reality shows?
It is awesome to be a part of reality shows because it provides you a break from the normal life of the actors, a chance to meet different people and also make big money (laughs).

Are there any plans to step into Bollywood?
I have been in touch with several people and it will happen one day and there was one pipeline but it did not happen because there were certain internal issues.

How is your off screen chemistry with Arjun Bijlani?
We have not shot many scenes together, but I had met him before for a house party and I am looking forward to work with him.

Your character goes on air tonight; how do you feel?
I am really excited about that because the introductory scene is a fight scene with my rival because the person has encroached into my territory and further the fight worsens. I hope people will like my new look and attitude.

A Bolly-goer, and Telly lover?! This is just the article for you!

Playing match makers on this day of love, we at BollyCurry paired up one star each from the small and the big screen to set them up for a Dream Date this Valentines.

How?!

With much input from sincerely always, Uncle Google, and all our spy-work in digging out all the paparazzi gossip archives, we paired 5 Bollywood male stars with 5 Tellywood female starlets, and vice versa...

...and voila! The ten handpicked couples for Valentines Day Dream Date are...

Arjun Bijlani - Genelia D'Souza

"I would love to date Genelia D'Souza. She is so cute..."

So says hottie Mr. Arjun Bijlani.

Come to think of it, he gets the lady bang on! He may have donned the serious stud avatar of Mayank for Miley Jab Hum Tum, but if the bubbly chatterbox Nupur could break the ice barriers playing his love interest onscreen, we bet the real life bubbly doze of Genelia D'Souza is just what the real life fun loving and easy going Arjun needs as his Valentine surprise!

AB's article in Times of India newspaper related to World Cup Cricket...

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tv-/TV-serials-or-cricket-time/articleshow/7487619.cms

TV serials or cricket time?

Will the World Cup affect prime time band of General Entertainment Channels (GECs)? Will cricket beat daily soaps? BT explores...

For cricket lovers, the exciting roller coaster '50 over' ride is just a few days away. The entire nation is waiting for the World Cup action to begin next Saturday. It is going to be a clash of the titans. But we aren't referring to the pitch. We are talking about the battle Indian homes will witness. Yes, the fight will be over the remote and the battle between cricket matches and daily soaps. That will be kahaani ghar ghar ki! "Of course! I know my husband and I are going to have bitter fights around this time," says housewife Neha Kulkarni. "I have to watch my daily serials and he will insist on the matches. Let's see who wins. I guess sometimes I'll win and sometimes he will," she adds.
Ravi Naik, a cricket lover is planning to buy another TV to keep his wife and children happy. "They are so used to their TV shows that they'll drive me mad if I switch to cricket. So getting another TV set is the only option," he says.

Audiences apart, what do people who are associated with the television industry have to say about this? We ask actor Arjun Bijlani if he has some jittery feeling about world cup broadcast affecting his newly launched serial Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna Sa. "Cricket is a religion in India and World cup is eagerly awaited," he says. "In fact, I am a hard-core cricket fan and will look forward to catch up on team India's matches. My show is in the late night slot, so it won't be affected. However, there would be a little variation in case of final overs' excitement catching up. But overall, those who like the soap will manage to watch it."

But actor Manish Paul thinks differently. He says, "World cup broadcast will affect the TRPs of prime time band. More so because this is seemingly Sachin Tendulkar's last World cup. In our country love for cricket and Tendulkar cannot be overlooked and certainly this will shift the eyeballs from GECs to cricket telecast."
TV producers surely strategise during this mega event of cricket. When asked actor-producer JD Majethia, who himself is an avid cricket-lover, says "Most of the team India matches are slotted between Friday to Sunday and thereby it just won't affect the regular prime time band. Although if there're some interesting matches from good cricket teams like Australia, Pakistan, England, there would be upto 15 per cent drop in TRPs which is quite natural." But, he thinks the loyal audience will stick to the soaps in any case and according to him a 100 overs' match is no more grasping. Now that's a point to note down in T20 matches era!
When asked Kunal Mukherjee, AVP Marketing of a channel group, he says, "Cricket World Cup is definitely something we have to take seriously while strategising and with every channel the strategy will change. Like for our movie channel, we're focusing on strengthening the late night band to a prime time band while planning. Postmatch viewers will prefer watching good line-up of films and that will make it up for affected TRPs of prime time band." He adds, "For entertainment channels, those who miss out the prime time episodes, might look forward to the repeats of the shows/soaps. And in case the episode is important, I don't think audiences would mind giving up a few overs of a match as well!"
It seems like cricketers are gearing up to win the battle, but the GECs are working out strategies to maintain the TRPs. Now it will be exciting to watch in whose hands lies the remote. Wait till you know the result of TRPs.
