Census: Gulzar Roped in as MP Brand Ambassador
The Directorate of Census Operations (DCO), Madhya Pradesh has hired the services of veteran Bollywood writer and lyricist Gulzar to ensure success in the second phase of the exhaustive enumeration operation undertaken every decade.
The DCO has appointed Gulzar as its brand ambassador and the 74-year-old songwriter will motivate people in the state for participating in the second round of the census beginning from February 9.
A couplet written by him for the census reads, "Tumhara haq hai tum ginti mein aao, jo ho jese bhi ho naam likhao."
Besides Gulzar, television actress Divyanka Tripathi, from Bhopal, has also been roped in for the entire exercise.
"While Gulzar's request for census will appeal to the old and middle-aged people, Divyanka's appeal will certainly create awareness among youths," claimed Director, Census Operations, Sachin Sinha.
He said that advertisements depicting both the 'brand ambassadors' would come up soon along with hoardings.
"We have brought Gulzar on board and will use his posters and banners, requesting people to participate in the census operations across Madhya Pradesh," Sinha said.
Referring to the ongoing preparations, the 1995 batch IAS officer said district-level training for this purpose is on. Moreover, the Urban Administration and Rural Development departments has also issued necessary instructions pertaining to the proposed exercise, he said adding that services of about 1.5 lakh employees will be utilised in this round.
The field survey in the second phase will be conducted between February nine and 28 and the collected details scrutinised from March one to five, Sinha said.
The date of the door-to-door survey conducted by enumerators or supervisors under the Census-2011 programme will be compiled by the midnight of February 28.
Emphasising that data played an important role in formulating five-year-plans, Sinha said on completion of the programme, grants for development of villages will be allotted to the panchayats on the basis of this census.
During the 20-day census exercise, detailed information of every individual like date of birth, religion, level of education, mother tongue, number of languages known, marital status, economic activities undertaken and fertility details will be registered by the enumerators, he said.
Sinha disclosed that the counting of homeless population will be done by the night of February 28, in which the nomadic population, including workers at constructions sites, stone-crushers, truck unions, railway stations, bus stands, red-light areas, people sleeping under flyovers and in the dhabas will be covered.
The mapping of these areas will be done before February 28, he added.
Sinha said that a person should be counted only at one place and if a visitor has come to stay during those 20 days, he/she will be counted at the place of visit.
