Madhuri Dixit (AGENCY)

Marriage and two babies later, Madhuri Dixit has come flocking back to Bollywood.

The nineties superstar wants fame and fortune once more, and although her last outing, 2007's "Aaja Nachle", was a box-office disaster, the award-winning actress believes her recent work on the TV show "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa" should have producers offering her new films. The only deterrent, she says, has been the elusive "good script".

But what sort of work is she willing to do? We asked her that, and other questions.

Did you refuse to play Sonam Kapoor's mother in the film that Anil Kapoor offered to you?

Well, I have not yet spoken to Anil Kapoor regarding that. I don't even know what the role is. So if the role is exciting enough, it doesn't matter if I need to be a mother or not.

What kind of film would excite you?

My fans are looking forward to an entertaining film from me.  But then I am looking forward to a good script. I do not mind if it is a new director with new ideas. I want to enjoy the character and the role.

You cried the other day on the sets of "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa". What happened?

Well, they showed glimpses of my school days and I went back down memory lane. You do what you want and the parents need to restrict control you and clean up the mess you have created. Our early days in school are the ones which we reminisce a lot about and it was a wonderful feeling. I had studied in a convent school and watching those nuns, I could not restrain myself and let go of my emotions.

Do your children watch your movies?

Well, they do not understand Hindi. But they keep watching my films and understand it after reading the subtitles. They have seen my films like 'Devdas', 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun', 'Aaja Nachle' and 'Dil To Paagal Hai'. I am trying to teach them Hindi. But they speak Marathi at home and when school reopens, they start speaking in English all over again.

Do they watch you on TV?

Well, they do. In fact when we are home and 'Jhalak Dikhlaa Ja' is being telecast on TV, they call me over and ask me to watch the programme. They try and take pictures of me on television and they are pretty amused by the fact that I am on television. They are keen to know whether I am a popular personality and have even asked me at times , 'Mom, are you a famous person?'

Dance-based reality shows are hits, but dance-based movies do not do as well. Is there a trend or pattern that you are seeing?

It is not just the dance portions that are responsible, but a lot of factors determine why a film does well or not. One cannot merely generalize that dance based films don't do well. Some films have the appeal and some don't.

What kind of actors from this generation do you think are good?

I loved Sonakshi Sinha in 'Dabangg'. She is very natural and her eyes have a lot of expression. I also loved Ranbir Kapoor in the films 'Wake Up Sid', Rocket  Singh and 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani'. I thought that Anushka Sharma was also fabulous in some scenes in 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. I think these actors have great potential.

Which one of your dialogues you do savour the most?

I liked the dialogues from the film 'Dil To Paagal Hai'. Even 'Devdas' had some great dialogues. I can also vividly remember my dialogue with Aruna Iraniji in 'Beta'. They were some of the best.

Tell us one song that you have performed on that you feel is your favourite?

I loved the 'Choli Ke Peeche' song from the film 'Khalnayak'. The song had a lot of folk flavour and it needed a lot of energy to perform the number as well. Like 'Munni Badnaam Hui' it is a total masala entertainer number.

What do you attribute the success of the song to with so many s-called 'latkas' and 'jhatkas' (dance moves)?

'Latkas' and 'jhatkas' are present in Indian dances only. Look at Rajasthani dances and see the kind of movements present in the dance form.

You wanted to start a dance school once?

I still want to start it. But nothing has happened in this regard.

So is that still your dream?

Yes. I do want to start my school as soon as possible. And it is not just Kathak that I want to reach there. I want to teach all kinds of dance forms.  I have been learning dancing from the age of eight.  Dancing is very close to my heart. Only when my children go to school, will I able to take out time for this. But then my elder son is in second grade and he has a lot of homework to do daily. I have also dreamt of a happy family and a great career. My career has seen a lot of ups and downs but it is my husband and my children who give me the greatest happiness in the world.

thanks for posting the wonderful interview Resham...man, most forum posts are a war zone right now...this was unfair, show is rigged, Madhuri prefers money to correct judging and what not i recall the phrase, logon ko paisa de do, kuch bhi bolne lagte hain (i think it was used in an ad too)..after looking at some of the posts, i wanna say logon ko web space de do, kuch bhi type ker dete hain

i mean i get it that there are folks angry with some stuff, but there's a refined way of saying things which i feel adds more substance to your argument. okay you're upset, but so much negativity πŸ˜”, waiting for all of it to subside by ignoring them so far.

back to our wonderful Madz, there's been no news on how shooting went for this challenges round. i'm looking forward to good entertainment, dancing and Madhuri's million dollar smile πŸ˜ƒ

@Resham, regarding the Dil Tera Aashiq...guys do catch that film on youtube if you haven't...entertaining movie for Madhuri fans..it was made by Rikku Rakeshnath's (Madhuri's secretary/ manager) wife Rima...i like to watch it for the comic hilarity, and of course, MD...Madhuri has such great comic timing, her impression of Akhil this week and N Chandra last week were 🀣

I agree yaar...there is so much negativity around her judging..tht I dont feel like going anywhere near tht readings...cmon..its not easy for a judge to perform too...why cant these ppl understand..they just make a target of anything....

Its hurting to even see someone accusing her so much....give a break yaar....

Coming to MD then boss I just need her to see perform yet again to come up against all these negativities....and yes tht comic angle ws really good in DTA.....esp when she dons the sadhu look and ofcoz tht old lady look.....🀣

Thnx 4 the article.....i love this pic of hers....its so calm.....😊

I simply love Dil Tera Aashiq........Mads is such a good actor..... excels in any n every role n her comic timing is awesome.........her break dance wearing that buddhi make-up is too good.....πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
The other day when Remo was showing Ankita MJ's trademark break dance move.....i was reminded of Dil Tera Aashiq........😳

And regarding the negativity around her judging....this was bound to happen.......when someone is so popular n adorable.....some people would definitely not be able to digest the fact n keep finding ways to make her look bad.......but i think she is a pretty fair judge n this week she was bang on with her marking................seriously now as the competition is getting tougher....ppl still expect their fav contestants to get 9 n 10 in every performance???πŸ˜†....thats ridiculous....πŸ˜†

I really liked the new idea of a dance off between the two bottom ranked contestants......who come in the danger zone combining judges score n audience votes....this is a really good idea n it would give the judges the chance to save the better contestant.....and also the contestant a chance to remain in the competition......good move.......πŸ‘

Exactly suzi..nw at this stage hw can u expect these judges to give 9 or 10...cmon nw the competition is more tougher😊....

But I love her..and negativity is too thin for me when I see her on screen as a judge and as a personπŸ˜‰....

Thx fr the link....I loved the article....everyone seems to go on cloud 9 as soon as Mads praises them..first Duggu and now EmraanπŸ˜†

And I missed this...can somebody tell me which songs were played and wht movies...plssssss😭

Okay here is a brief summary of the MD jadoo on Radio One.....😊

Started with Dhak Dhak....followed by first portion of MD interview.....giving a gist of the interaction....don't remember the exact words....
Ques: How was the transition from films to home-maker?
MD: It was easy coz .....she says she had always kept her personal n professional life separate....2 separate baggages....her home has always been like just another home......and she loves children so she is enjoying her present life.....
The RJ asks what MD would love to listen......she chooses 'ek do teen'....says it was her first hit n people started to recognize her....then they ask her about her fav role in a movie.....MD says she has had several milestones n mentions tezaab, dil, beta, saajan, mrityudand, HAHK, DTPH n Devdas........next she chooses to listen to 'dil cheez kya hai'.....says Rekha was excellent in the song.....this song is followed by 'dum duma dum' from Dil.....
Ques: Does MD miss stardom when she is alone?
MD: Not really....coz she enjoys her space there....can lead a normal life....go out for a walk or do shopping without constant scrutiny.......
Next song......she chooses 'Hawa Hawayi"...........says she likes Sridevi in it...her expressions r very good...........this song is followed by Aaja Nachle...........and couldn't stop myself from dancing with it.....
Next the RJ asks for some more of her fav songs....she chooses 'Muqabla Muqabla' by Prabhudeva....appreciates his dancing skills...says everybody was glued to the t.v. when this song came out, 'Piya Ghar Aaya o Ramji'....says the song has gr8 movements n now ppl tease her that her husband's name is Ram thats why she danced so energetically in itπŸ˜† (i simply love MD in this song...her dancing, expressions n her looks.....ufff😳).....and lastly she chooses 'Que Sera Sera' says this was the only song which made afraid of dancing for once....😊
