about Abhay maybe he was wearing a hand out of Maithli's  dadWink

btw people do get influenced by those who are around them , if you follow up the fashion globally , you will notice that apart from their own traditional cloths everyone around the world  used to follow similar trend!
True.
That makes sense for Maithili. Not for Abhay.LOL

ewwww the Raichands speaking pure Hindi?? Maithili in Lehnga?!?! Seriously???
I would stop watching the show if they show any of those stuff! No offence but dont you think Chaand and Haseena would have picked up the language in 300 years? I mean they weren't closed up in a tomb or somethin, were they? They evolved in the 300 years!!!

And about the lack of "indian-ness" in the show...why do we always need a show with Indian culture in it?? Don't you think a bit of western touch is like a breath of fresh air??

Honestly speaking, there is nothing like PURE Indian-ness anymore! I bet you wont find a single person who speaks pure Hindi (maybe some Hindi Lit. prof!!) But thats not the point...the indian-ness you want can only be seen in some Saas-Bahu dramas!

As a matter of fact, I think this show is kind of a typical Indian drama...I mean, I love this show but I think it still needs a bit more of western and younger generation touch...there is still way too much drama and "Indian-ness" going on!!

why would you want them to speak shudh Hindi! when the reality is different most Indians dont speak pure Hindi even with their kids, they always speak English especially the educated and the high class!

even if they belong to a different era even at that time British used o rule India so still!

about the dress i am more concerned about the changing century then the dresses theme selves first they said it was 18th century then piya said 200 years ago means 19th century and in sbs the anchor said 170 or 180 years ago!

btw the dresses can be explainable as i said they were ruled by British at the time! so they bound to wear tradition and western clothes too
I know that. Trust me its the same scene in my house.
What I am saying is that I think it is over used. Stuff like "Sinking into the ablyss"
C'mon who says that?
And I wasnt serious about the shudh hindi thing.

Highlight on the word 'too'. It would have been better if they had shown Maithili wearing Indian stuff too.

And I can relax with the Maithili thing, but ABHAY who was a peasant wore victorian style stuff?

I am not asking him to wear dhoti-kurta or anything. Normal pant and shirt would have been okay too. Anything that is not so in-your-face victorian. THAT I object to.

And Indians wern't THAT influenced by the British that even peasants wore such stuff.

Just my POV.

i get you now! but still maybe she was still young and loved the western cloths moreLOL

Underlined: You're joking, right? LOL LOL. In the 18th century, Hindu royalty and Upper class nobility was hyper-conservative, with women being "purdah-eers" who didnt venture out of their Inner chambers without a screen over their faces. And the only people who'd get infulenced by the British was the royalty of the Princely States, who were the chief trading partners of the EIC. They didnt wear Victorian clothing for sure! NOT gowns...lol ROFL

Besides, in the 18th, the British were just beginning to settle, they werent much important to infulence the, er, "fashion" sense of the 18th century Conservative, Mleccha-phobic public.

There. I hope that settles it.Big smile

I would call it 'ewwww' if I were you. Its our CULTURE. An its where we came from.
Fine, at the language. Lets ignore that for now.

Bit of 'western stuff' as you say is, good. But CMON, theres GOTTA be some REALITY attactched to it dont you think?

And you say you want it more westernized. If me make it anymore 'westernized' than it already is, we shall have foriegn actors acting in our soaps next!

And Victorian dresses in 18TH CENTURY? You gotta be kidding me. Wheres the reality in that ?
And besides, we have an Identity. I dont want us to be 'just an another country' which hasnt got a culture of its own. Right?

And if you must know, the main reason I made this post was beacuse, a few of my non-Indian friends were watching PKYEK with me one day. And when they saw those victorian dresses, they were like - "Victorian dresses? This soap of your is such a American soap wannabe"
(They were American)

I just dont want any indian-ness in the show. But ya i do agre with u about the victorian dress. It should have been an indian dress..

I dont know what your assumption on Indian-ness is.
But I dont mean Indian-ness to be equal to all that crap they show in Saas-Bahu dramas. (Those are an overdose of Indian-ness !LOL)

I want the show to be realistic. Bas.

Since most of you think that Abhay and Maithili wouldnt look good in Indian outfits, as you think it might look really weird. I have a few pics that might contradict that. I dunno about you guys, but I these outfits are awesome.

The above cartoon one is a perfect combo of Western+Indian. I love it.

These pics are only to give you an idea.

Like I said, I dunno I you guys, but I love this. Vivian would have looked dayum in these ! *Dreamland*

I actualy do not like the outfit in the given pic, there were better ones in the movie, but these were the only pics I could find.

PS- And for those who are wondering, the stills are from a telugu movie called Anaganaga O Dheerudu (Dont ask me how it is pronounced, I dont know eitherLOL) (Once Upon A Warrior in english). I just came back from the movie, and I first thing I do is put up these pics. I was practically drooling at the outfits in the movie.

PPS - Can you believe I actually spent time searching for outifts ? And the moment the I saw the outfit in the movie, the first thing that came to my mind was 'India-Forums'. LOL.LOL
