Zee goes strong at No. 3 among Hindi GECs
January 13, 11
Fatema Rajkotwala

The two top gainers among Hindi general entertainment channels this week are Colors and Zee TV, which have seen a rise in ratings. Colors has grown from 283 to 296 GRPs, an increase of 13 points, while Zee TV has risen from 224 to 232 GRPs. Star Plus and Sony have both seen drop in ratings since Week 1 of 2011.

The first week of the year pronounced Star Plus as the leading Hindi GEC on the ratings chart with ratings close to 400 GRPs. The channel continues to lead the pack, but the second week is seeing a stabilising in ratings after the year end special programming and big ticket property, 'Masterchef India', closed on December 25, 2010. Another big ticket reality show that wrapped up recently was 'Bigg Boss Season 4' on Colors on January 8, with the finale episode pulling in a 6.7 TVR as per TAM Media Research for Hindi Speaking Markets in the CS 4+ category.

The current reality shows that will see a close combat will be Zee TV's 'Lux DID Doubles' that opened this week on January 14, 2011 with a 4.7 TVR and Sony's 'Jhalak Dikhla Ja', which recently premiered with 4.1 TVR. As a build-up to the grand premiere of the show on January 14, Zee extended its popular non-fiction weekend slot to every weeknight at 10:30 pm from Monday, January 10 to Thursday, January 13, giving 'DID Doubles' a good lead in. The audience response to the first audition episode of Zee TV's 'DID Doubles' substantiates the channel's strong belief that it is superlative dancing talent and not high-profile celebrities that really pull in the audiences.

Meanwhile, in the fiction space, Colors has launched two new shows ' 'Phulwa' and Mukti Bandhan' in the 9-10 pm primetime band to fill in the weekday slots left vacant by the exit of 'Bigg Boss' on January 8, 2011. Imagine will also be launching two new fiction shows in the coming weeks.

'Pavitra Rishta' is another show that has pulled in a high 6.3 TVR, second to this week's top rated show, 'Bigg Boss's finale episode. 'Pratigya', 'Saathiya Saath Nibhana' and 'Sasural Genda Phool' continue to draw 5.5 plus ratings for Star Plus, while Colors has upped its performance with the help of its non-fiction ('Bigg Boss' finale) and fiction mix with 'Na Aana Is Des Laado' bringing in ratings similar to 'DID Doubles', at 4.7 TVR.

Serves them right

I cannot still get why they  put Gulaal in place of Bidaa..
There were many other shows which could be axed
Today is 2 months since Bidaaii got over
why did have to get over to replace Gulaal  Ouch

Which other show will get axed at number 1 position
Never in teh history of television

also they are using some stratergies to keep  sending IF news abt some crazy twists and turns in other shows
But what abt these maha episodes what good are they doing

No Sami, Starplus was 400 plus when star parivaar awards aired and Bidaai underwent a leap. Smile. The grps kept flunctuating in 2010 but Bidaai has a huge stack in bringing Starplus back to its no1 that's why they are not ending any show now, only Bidaai ended on a high. Ouch

Shanti, Maha episodes are getting rating and bringing grps to help sustain Starplus its no1 position and they are also building a audience for their weekend biweekly and one hour weekly shows.

this was evident BB ending with a bang for colors..

last week with 396 to 379 this week.starplus slides a bit in its GRP..

reading the article the rating of gulal from beginning was not that great...as always channel people saying they can't tell anything as of now same blah blah about its ratings.a per article they have a vision of 3 months ...2 months and its still struggling to get in top 10..checked the trp ratings of 10th/11th jan nowhere is gulal..lol even in chaskameter its not in the list of top shows of starplus..

"Even as many eyes are on 'Gulaal', and whether Star Plus can repeat the magic, the 9.00 pm itself is witnessing an intense battle."so here goes another reality show with which gulal will have to compete..

just read ZOR KA JHATKA on imagine getting the 9-10pm slot..host SRK..its a daily ..just think BB over with salman SRK takes over..just think how competition will be  more tougher now..PR already has  so many loyal audiences in this time slot..

sounds repeated but bidaai in 9pm slot would have made it in the top 10 list with its consistent ratings how much competition..

hope the channel have a good thought about why they replaced bidaai such a wonderful show..

This part interests me as every serial is given a three month period to build up its own audience and let's see how starplus 's show at 9:00 pm slot fares after three months with more competition from a new show on colors and a new reality show on imagine.

Zee is happy with where it stands

SONY JDJ why its not showing imporvement

Now new YRF shows are comimg Khiote Sikkey wonder how it will do

Frankly DID doubles is a better show than JDJ AND Iam a fan of DID from its first season. Even Hollywood is having sequels and KKKG is having a sequel too, I thought why not Bidaai 2 on the same lines Rajvansh parivaar with their two sons , eldest son rather adopted and their relatiionships ,their children. Sounds interesting. Big smile
