I love the way they were bickering about each others music tastes...Got to agree avery refreshing couple and interview!
About the 50 crore budget, I suppose he could be hinting at Farah Khan as well?
I don't think they refer anyone particular, 50Cr + all budget movies have failed miserably at BO. few names: Kites, Ravan, Guzaarish, Prince, TMK and list goes on and on...

Every other BW these days spend cr just on one item song, most of the money has gone in drain. What we see is famous actress exposing maximum with minimum dance. I wonder all hues about Kats belly dance in it. We have seen much better belly dances in any dance show at lowest costConfused

Movies like Tere Bin Laden and Phas gaye Obama are example that refreshing story based cinema still works much better..

couldn't be Farah... TMK was a hit... TongueTongueTongue

most likely it's a dig at SLB... aamir has previously made comment about SLB's black as well... and he's good friends with salman... i'm guessing he's referring to Guzaarish or mostly Hrithik's movies.... especially with the supposed shared look they gave each other...!   TongueTongueTongue

don't think he considers Vivek's movie even worthy of his attention...!   TongueTongueTongue
TMK didn't make money just recovered cost and It opened at biggest weekend, christmas + New year weekConfused

Prince had lot of money in it, and you are right else it is not even worth mentioning.

TMK is a semi-hit acc to boxoffice india... so yes it did make money...

even aamir releases his movies on those weekends naa, so it's not just TMK that benefitted from huge opening weekends...!   TongueTongueTongue  and obviously it did make money, otherwise, it would be called a flop....!   TongueTongue

my guess is that he meant it towards SLB... which i find rather hypocritical, considering his cinema is just as preachy and pretentious...!   TongueTongueTongue

As much as it is imp to encourage low budget or medium budget movies.. high budget movies have their own importance.. bolly can't lose its glam quotient.. which caters to masses.. and which is the bread and butter for many.. i mean holly makes movies that have big budgets of about 150 million and stuff.. and bolly is still far behind in big budgets.. some of the big budget movies.. have worked in indian cinema like endhiran.. devdas..k3g.. and some have flopped also.. hits and flops are part and pracel of cinema..

well, you need to have a balance, really... you can't just have drama or low budget thought provoking movies only... as they say, variety is the spice of life... different genres appeal to different people... i like all sorts of movies, depending on my mood... except horror, which i hate with a passion...!  LOLLOL  but there is an audience for that too...!

Ha ha Ghajini is pathbreaking! Is that what he thinks or the media portrayed it that way? Thing is this....the media has been going OTT over Aamir since his movies have started to become blockbusters and not to forget he took India to the Oscars....he also opened up to the media after TZP which helped this media frenzy....he has learnt that media is important to move his views forward and get the attention he wants....remember during RDB he wouldn't give interviews or promote the film? LOL He was stubborn and actually naive.......not anymore! haha!

I really don't think he thinks he is the only one or Ghajini was pathbreaking... but I can believe that his ego got a huge boost after the media started yakyaking about him LOL But ya I don't think he knows how to be light in media...he is very secretive about himself and does not want to open up much hence comes across as snooty at times. He is quite chilled out as a person in real life according to many of his co-actors and not many people see that side of him....I really think he is a child at heart...and children often don't know how to be humble...if you give their ego a boost....they go for the sky LOLLOL I think he tries to portray he is some serious guy ...you know people who show off look I am oh so and so just to hide that they are silly people in reality LOL. I actually find both Reena and Kiran to be much more serious and well grounded with strong heads on their shoulders....Aamir depends on them a lot IMO. I think the change in Aamir's view about media was brought about by Kiran as Reena was much more media shy and wanted to stay away from it which influenced Aamir's decisions in his early days. So ya I just can't see Aamir as manipulative or bitchy....he is too much into himself (ah see why he looks so full of himself! )LOL

His sense of humor backfires on him. Remember the dog who was called shahrukh? LOL  He thought it was funny and I really think he meant no harm but it can be read in so many different ways.

Recently at IK's wedding he asked reporters if he looked better than the groom....LOL of course he is kidding but you can read that as "is aamir insecure about his looks?" he probably is haha what with all the work on his face and why not his face sells....but on that occasion he was kidding for sure.

i really don't think he implied audience is dumb. he said he didn't know who his target audience was! is it wrong to assume that many people will not be interested in a movie like dhobi ghaat? it's not because they are dumb it's because that sort of movie always historically has little audience. so budget has to be low and it has to be promoted in that fashion. but before that you need to know which type of audience will go to the theaters to see this movie na.

also big budget films are not bad. but if you are making a movie on a genre or topic that has little audience it's foolish to expect that people in hordes will go see the movie and a 100 cr budget is justified. not everyone is christopher nolan who can make a big budget superhero movie and still have so much depth in the story!
