Despite low-budget films enjoying the success that many big-banner movies have failed to replicate in the recent past, Akshay Kumar feels such movies are not meant for Bollywood actors like him as it is not financially viable. "Established stars like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan or me cannot venture for low-budget films like Udaan or Tere Bin Laden because high box office returns are expected from our films," the actor said on the sidelines of the music launch of his forthcoming film Patiala House.

"I have seen the business of these films. There is a very niche audience for them. When Shahrukh, Salman or even I... do a film we have to collect a certain amount of money through our films so that distributors and exhibitors get their money back," he said.

AkshaySuch kind of films collect a maximum of Rs eight crore at the box office. While, commercial films make a business of at least Rs 70 crore, the actor said.

"I am an entertainer... I am a commercial hero. I will continue to be part of commercial cinema," he added.

However, the 'Khiladi' expressed hope that low-budget films would find a greater audience in the near future.

Please Akshay, the main reason you wouldn't do a low-budget film is because your fees would cost more than the budget of the entire movie. The reason movies with stars in them have to do so well is because the stars themselves charge a crapload of money to be a part of the film.

And I might be in the minority but to me, low budget films are as commercial as big budget movies. I'd enjoy watching an Udaan over a Singh is King any day.

The fact is that if the Khan's and Akshay were to work in these "small budget films", it would no longer be small budget films.

Stars like Akshay and SRK get paid an average of around 10 crores per movie.... maybe Akshay a little less than SRK but plus or minus in the same price range....

The small budget movies are done within 2-3 crores and they end up making 8-10 crores.... First of all they dont have the budget to fit these stars in... and the stars dont want to cut down their price and work in the low budget ones...

Waise I am glad they stay out of the low budget ones.... With them the total essence of the movie will be lost...
