Muskaan was still in shock. She kept replaying the last scene over and over again. The look in the man's eyes had promised retribution. The chilling smile on his face would haunt her dreams for days to come. She was dimly aware of the paramedic telling the police officers that she was in shock, her mind was still reliving the past few minutes which really felt like hours to her. She did not snap out of her stupor when the paramedic pried her fingers off the cell phone that she was still clutching to her chest. He then dialed her I.C.E number and waited patiently for someone to answer.
Part 3- And So It Begins
Geet: Muskaan! You were supposed to pick me
up 20 minutes ago! I've been waiting for you forever! Please don't tell me you're
still at the mall Paramedic: Ma'am I want you to listen
carefully. I am a paramedic. The lady to whom this phone belongs is fine but I need
you to come to the location to get her. I will give you the details when you
get here. She was witness to a horrible crime, rest assured the lady is fine
but she is in shock. Geet was startled when she heard the unfamiliar
voice on the phone, even more so when he informed her that he was a paramedic.
She started having a panic attack when he informed her that Muskaan was in
shock and the only thing she could think of was getting to her sister. Before
leaving home, she called up Maan who did not pick up, she then called up Rahul
who picked up on the very first ring. Geet: Rahul! Thank God you picked up!
Listen something is horribly wrong. I just got a call from a paramedic saying
that Muskaan witnessed a crime and was in shock! She is still at the mall, I am
on my way there but I would appreciate it if someone you or someone else could
get there! They will probably tell you more details then me. Rahul: Don't worry Geet, I'm on my way, he
replied grimly before making a sharp U turn⦠he was close to the mall, had in
fact been on his way home with Armaan when Geet called and could not help but
suppress a chuckle. Muskaan had a way of finding trouble. Rahul and Armaan arrived at the site just
as the body was carried away by the morgue. The situation seemed more serious
than Geet had let on, and he was concerned for Muskaan's safety. He saw her
sitting on the hood of her car with a lost look on her face, her bags clutched
to her chest as a shield. She looked so lost that he wanted to hug her and take
away the pain. Armaan: Its bad Rahul real bad! According
to the officers, a woman in her mid twenties was attacked a while ago and
Muskaan was the only witness. The officers believe she saw the face of the
murderer and want to take her in for questioning. Rahul flashed his badge as he walked up to
the detective in charge of the case. He wanted to accompany Muskaan to the
station and got permission to do so. He instructed Armaan to wait for Geet and
take her home when she arrived. He then escorted Muskaan to the car and made
her sit down, bucking her in. he pried the bags out of her hand and tossed them
in the back seat then took one of her hands in his own and squeezed it
reassuringly. Muskaan turned to look at him, her eyes still unfocused but she
squeezed his hand back and held on, as it gave her a sense of security. Rahul: Muskaan honey look at me. You are
safe, you are fine! I'm here na. we just have to go downtown to sort some
things out. Then we will go home and you can put this entire incident behind
you. You understand what I'm saying right? She nodded her head slowly and he gave
her a tight smile before pulling out of the parking lot. Once Rahul got to the station he took
charge of the entire investigation. Officer: Female Caucasian, 23 years old.
Name is Melissa. C.O.D; multiple stab wounds. Rahul: Did we find any prints? Did he leave
the murder weapon behind? Officer: None. We checked all surrounding
area. The unsub probably took the weapon with him. Rahul now turned his attention to Muskaan
who was had remained silent throughout. He hated to do this to her but he
needed her to go through everything that had happened in order to get as much
details as possible. The sooner it was over with the sooner he could take her
home. Rahul: Muskaan, Hun, I need you to tell me
all that you remember. Anything and everything you can think of about what
happened. The smallest details can help. Muski look at me, she lifted her eyes
to look at him and he smiled at her to let her know that he was there. She took
in a deep breath before blurting out. Muskaan: I saw him, the man. God Rahul he
killed her so calmly without a trace of remorse. Rahul: Start at the beginning Muskaan: I was walking towards my car,
which was right across from the girls when I dropped my bags, after I picked my
bags, the stuff from my bag spilled out. I picked it up and when I stood up I
saw that man. He held the girl from behind. He held a knife to her throat. She
was begging him, pleading with him to let her go but he laughed. He just stood
there and laughed. He then took the knife and stabbed her, again and again and
again. Muskaan's voice shook at the last bit. Rahul sensing her distress gave
her a hug asking her if she needed a break. Muskaan: No, Let me get this over with
Rahul. She turned back to the officer and continued with her narration. After
he stabbed her he wiped the knife on a piece of cloth then stuck in under his
shirt. He was turning to leave when he saw me. He stared right in my eyes and I
was too petrified to move. He started moving towards me and I ran. While
running I called the cops and then hid behind a car. But he found me, he found
me Rahul and he was going to kill me. Rahul clenched the desk. He had no idea
that Muskaan had come so close to death, the very thought terrified him and he
clutched her hand tightly, a look of anger and pain on his face. Meanwhile
Muskaan continued with her tale. Muskaan: He stood in front of me and he
smiled, the same smile he had on his face before he killed the girl. But then
he heard the sirens and he put his knife away and left. God Rahul his eyes,
they were so cold and the way he looked at me, it was as if to say that he
would finish what he started. I have never been more terrified in my life. I
will never forget his face, never. Rahul: Shhh babes, it's ok. You're safe
now. I won't let anything or anyone harm you. He held her close, rubbing her
back in a soothing gesture. Police Officer: Ma'am do you think you could help us make a sketch
of this man. The sooner we get him off the streets the better. Muskaan nodded
in acceptance and went off to help another officer generate his picture. Rahul
was joined by Armaan who filled him in on the details. Both of them were
disturbed by the events but were relieved that Muskaan was safe. Muskaan: Yeah, that's him! He's the guy,
she said pointing at the computer screen where she and an expert had
constructed the man's face. Armaan: Let's go check this guy out. There
is no way of knowing how dangerous he can be. Sounds like a psycho to me and
you never know if he decides to come after Muskaan. Rahul: I won't let anything happen to her,
he murmured as he followed Armaan over to where Muskaan was seated. At the very moment they were aproached by a
police officer who drew them aside and confided in them that they unsub's
signature was the same as that of a serial killer that the F.B.I had been
looking for. Rahul and Armaan were
horrified for they knew that the man was meticulous and never left any clues
behind, nor did he let any eye witnesses liveβfor long. The newspapers were calling him the Triple
Threat Killer, he surfaced once every three years and killed 3 women in a time
span of three days before disappearing once again. Rahul and Armaan were first introduced to his
case two years ago when the police department got a break in the case and found a witness who had seen the
entire incident and had come forward to report it to the cops. Overjoyed with the having their first real
break in the case the department had made a mistake that cost them their only
witness. The man was found dead in his apartment a week later while under
police protection and the trail had gone cold after. Rahul was extremely
worried, not only was the unsub back, but both Muskaan and Geet were in danger.
He could not trust the department with their safety therefore he needed to find
a way to protect them and his family from this threat. He did not voice out his
concerns but Armaan who had been his friends for so long automatically
understood the unspoken message. After wrapping things up at the station,
Armaan escorted Muskaan home while Rahul worked out her security details with
the local police department. Upon reaching home, Armaan called on an emergency
family meeting and then waited for the arrival of Rahul in order to discuss
their plan of action. Rahul arrived shortly after and sat down to
discuss the situation with his brothers. Muskaan and Geet as well as Riddhima
wanted to be a part of the discussion so that they could have a say in the final
decision. One thing was clear though, this unsub was clearly dangerous and was
not to be taken lightly. Rahul: I spoke with chief, as of today we
are back on duty and officially on this case. He wants me back in Boston and I
think it will be best if Muskaan goes with me. Muskaan opened her mouth to
protest but he cut her off. Look Muskaan the main thing is we draw him
away from here, away from the family. We are worried about your safety as well
as the safety of Geet. Since the two of you are twins it shifts the risk to her
as well. Therefore you are coming with me to Boston. Armaan you have been
assigned to protect Geet. You are in charge of her safety. Armaan: Ok. Any extra protection assigned
here? He asked. Rahul: There will be extra security around
the house. We need to draw him out. Muskaan and Geet being twins poses and
additional problem. To keep Geet safe we will be sending her to a safe house
with security personnel escorting her and her own personal body guard Armaan.
Me and Muskaan depart tomorrow and Geet will depart shortly after. Rahul: We depart tomorrow at 7. We will be
driving down to Boston escorted by 2 unmarked cars. It's a 4 hour drive so be
ready and we have no idea how long we'll be gone so pack accordingly. And that
does not mean you pack 10 suitcases, he teased Muskaan. She glared at him but
there was a smile tugging at her lips. Muskaan: Fine, 9 suitcases it is then. She
got up to go pack followed by Geet and Riddhima.
