Bigg Boss Season 4

New Article - Shweta Tiwari and Dolly bindra

Rahul Mahajan and Dimpy Ganguly:
For someone embroiled in various controversies, it was shocking indeed to see women queuing up to take a shot at being Rahul Mahajan's wife. When Rahul finally chose Kolkata model Dimpy Ganguly to be Mrs Mahajan, a lot of people assumed that there would be trouble in paradise. Within three months of being blissfully wedded, Dimpy fled from her marital home at night and took refuge at a friend's place claiming that Rahul had physically abused her. The scars were there for all to see as the new Mrs Mahajan posed with them. Much family interventions and trips to Siddhi Vinayak later, the couple claimed to have worked out their issues and was back together.

Dolly Bindra
Not much was known about the loud Dolly Bindra except a report few years ago of her altercation with Raja Chaudhuri, who was still married to Shweta Tiwary. Full marks to "Bigg Boss" for plucking her out of obscurity and giving her fame. In the process, she became India's new foul-mouthed celeb (if one can call her that). From using the choicest of swear words at Shweta to 'haath laga ke dekh', Dolly can be credited for singlehandedly making "Bigg Boss 4" popular with a record complaints against the channel and show. That the show was not shifted to the 11 pm slot is an achievement in itself. Dolly certainly proved that 'crude is in'.

Salman Khan
" Dabangg" proved to be the blockbuster that the macho Khan needed to resurrect his career. And what a resurrection it has been! All of a sudden everyone wanted a piece of Salman Khan, including the TV channels. What started off as a negotiation between Sony TV and Sallu turned into a war with Salman signing "Bigg Boss 4" on Colors for big money. The Khan of the season, proved to be a hit with the masses and proved his dum on telly .

Amitabh Bachchan
He was off the TV radar for a few years now. But when Amitabh Bachchan made a comeback with "Kaun Banega Crorepati" 4 on Sony, he revived the fortunes of the channel. The voice, charisma and attitude was enough to lure in viewers who gave the show a big thumbs up, beating the other Bollywood heavyweights on TV β€” Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan in the TRPs race.

Rakhi Sawant
Oh! Jejus not again. Well, any given year, the list is incomplete without the spirited Rakhi Sawant. The lady has sure made reality TV her business. "I'm India's reality queen," she once told Hyderabad Times. Well, there is no doubting that. From shaking her booty in "Zara Nach Ke Dikha 2" and 'forgiving' former boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi on camera to imparting justice, Rakhi ishtyle, on "Rakhi ka Insaaf", the lady came out all guns blazing this year. Rakhi sure knows how to keep herself in the limelight. There is no beating her at her own game.

WHAT

Satellite rights
The broadcast market for feature films was piping hot in 2010. Channels got into a mad scramble shopping for big movies. "Raavan", "Kites", "Houseful", "Badmash Company", "Khatta Meetha", " Peepli Live", " Rakta Charitra", "I Hate Luv Storys", "Rajneeti", "Lafangey Parindey", "Dabangg" β€” you name them and the audience has seen it in the comfort of the homes, within months of a theatrical release. Movie producers are more than willing to give early opening on satellite possibly because the theatrical run of most films is becoming shorter. There is no doubt that today TV is where the money is. And who knows that better than Bollywood filmmakers!

Scripted shows
The year 2010 brought to fore the 'unreal' face of reality shows. From youth-centric shows like "Splitsvilla" and "Roadies", to the sham shaadis β€” everything was as scripted as a film. With the audience giving the thumbs down to many reality shows, fakeness was introduced to make a numbers skyrocket and keep the advertisers happy.

Striptease stars
Most male telly heartthrobs got shirtless with a vengeance this year much to the collective delight of the female fans and audience. From a towel dance sequence ala "Sawariya" (Karan Thakker in "Rang Badalti Odhni" and Nikhil Chadha in "Miley Jab Hum Tum"), a "Jodhaa-Akbar" like sword fighting sequence (Kapil Nirmal in "Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat"), a bare chested hero practising kick-boxing session without his shirt (Gurmeet Chaudhary in "Geet Hui Sab Se Paraye") to the mandatory shower sequence ( Karan Singh Grover in "Dill Mill Gayye"), a bath-tub sequence (Arjun Bijlani in "Miley Jab Hum Tum") to dance reality shows where TV stars flaunted their physique ( Aamir Ali, Abhishek Awasthi, Siddhesh Pai and company in "Zara Nach Ke Dikha 2") β€” small screen hotties gave enough droolworthy moments.

Long running shows
The year 2010 came as a bane to many TV producers and a number of long running shows ("Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai", " Jyoti", "Miley Jab Hum Tum", "Dill Mill Gayye", "12/24 Karol Bagh" to name some) finally shut shop. As the competition on the small screen got fierce, the axe fell on many once-popular shows that failed to bring in the numbers. No matter what twist, turns or new characters were introduced, the channels remained firm in their action of axing the non performers, leaving many producers sulking.

IPL and Commonwealth Games
Glitz, glamour and lots of off field tamasha. The major sporting events in the country did grab the necessary eyeballs, thanks to the various controversies. The Games, touted to be India's glory and signaling her arrival on the global stage with a bang, soon turned out to be India's shame. Of course, thanks to the performances by the sportspersons, everything fell into place. As far as the IPL is concerned, Lalit Modi, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty are still managing to keep it in the limelight with the many court cases and controversies. Despite the run-up and after effects, these sporting events were most watched on TV.

I don't understand how Dolly has defamed herself 😲 Don't many of us use swear words in real life too ??? Then why do we look 😲😲😲 when we see a TV actor or a movie star doing the same...at the end of the day, they are humans too πŸ˜ƒ

#1 Dolly herself accepted that her behavior wasn't appropriate. She not only said that, but also compltely changed herself upon re-entering the show. After her innings in BB, she'll always be associated with loud, abusive, uncouth manners - evident from the coverage in press/media. She has earned a negative reputation by her own action, hence "defamed herself" is totally apt.

#2 Propriety of behavior is not an absolute measure. What counts as acceptable behavior varies greatly with the time, place and person (ownself + the company that we hv). e.g. Many of us swear, but not everywhere .. not in front of elders. Many of us get into fights/arguments .. but not infront of kids, many of us smoke .. but not in hosp. What we do in bedroom/washroom, if done in public is considered inappropriate, uncivil. What dolly did might be acceptable in her own household but certainly won't be encouraged everywhere.

true, IMO what Shweta did(her curses) wasn't appropriate.

But when the topic is abt Dolly, what was the need to to bring ST here ?? If u disagree with the reasons I mentioned in my previous post, then u cud've presented a counter-argument. Dragging ST to this discussion.. isn't this smwhat tangential to the topic ?
