Ooops sorry, didn't think it that way. Ermm But your two kids don't post over here, so they don't count. Tongue
But honestly, I still don't understand why some NRI members try to demean Indians, who newly arrive from India, by saying that they have oily hair, smelly, stares at girls, try to grope, etc.
Its possible that they are not trying to demean anyone but just expressing what they feel and experience. what is bad is that it gets generalised and a wrong image and impression is formed, based on a few bad experiences.

People think they are walking talking sample surveys and can genralise people based on their nationality.
Isn't sample surveys what statisticians like ? But then I was never fond of statistics.

Yes, we like it but only if the sample is representative of the population.
In this case although they say that they speak from their own experience, I don't find it believable. At the most they have met some Indians who are like that. But then there are some everywhere who are like that.

Speaking for myself it is usually merely expression of experience rather than intentional generalization or wanting to demean. A lot of it has to do with human nature and we often don't realize it.

- It is human nature to stereotype. Not just NRI, even within India you will see the stereotype of a South Indian, a Gujju, a Sardar, a bhaiyya, a Nepali etc. Once removed from India we are exposed to so many more nationalities, ethnicities and cultures that we homogenize them into larger groups - FOB desis, NRI desis, Asians, Latinos, Blacks

- Negative impressions have more impact than positive impressions. If you go to a restaurant and have a bad experience, you tell everyone unsolicited. However, if it was good or great you won't tell unless asked. To share a positive it has to be phenomenal. That is why NRI's tend to develop strong opinions of desis based on very few experiences, similarly desis stereotype NRI's based on few experiences.

Also no country or culture is perfect. There are many flaws or room for improvement. While there are many NRI's who criticize for the sake of demeaning or feel superior, many criticize to make a point, to show room for improvement. Many do love our country and want to change things for the better. We don't want anyone to ever look down at our country because of the flaws, we don't want the vast number of positives, the rich history and culture overshadowed by the negativities. Unfortunately, due to the poor attitude of many NRI's even the ones who mean well tend to bear the brunt of being anti-Indian - and vice versa.
