became home to the country's first ever Bollywood
musical, there were sceptics a dime a dozen. But Viraf Sarkari of Wizcraft, the brain behind the idea, says he was adamant that Delhi's where it needed to be.
He says, "I was very clear that it had to start in Delhi. For a very long time, we'd been looking for the right location and place in the city for this. The capital is the gateway to all corporate activity. Plus, for all tourists coming to India
, Delhi-Jaipur-Agra is an important route and that's a critical audience for us."
And so started the Kingdom of Dreams, a destination that offers live entertainment. Six hundred people are currently employed for the destination, with 250 working just on " Zangoora
". And with the Bollywood musical as its staple offering at the moment, the janta is loving it. And the actors in the musical, Hussain Kuwajerwala
, Gauhar Khan
and Kashmira Irani are enjoying their stint with the musical. Even though Hussain has had to shift to Delhi temporarily for this musical, he says he has no regrets. He told DT, "The audience here loves Bollywood and we were sure they would enjoy this new format. I am so glad I took this opportunity and moved to Delhi for this while to bring a different sort of entertainment to people coming to Delhi, and India." Even though the actors get to go to their hometown Mumbai
for just 1-2 days every week, they say that the reactions they're getting makes everything worthwhile.
The launch of "Zangoora" in the capital has been marked by stars visits since the beginning, and many of them have even suggested that the destination be replicated in Mumbai, says Viraf, adding, "But we want it to become big in Delhi first. Shah Rukh Khan is our global brand ambassador, and everyone else who's been here too, including Arjun Rampal
, Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, they've all enjoyed "Zangoora"."
Says Viraf, "The musical is as Bollywood as it gets, and people connect with it. Besides our cast, we roped in Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for the music
, while the story, screenplay and dialogues have been penned by Javed Akhtar. The choreography is by Shiamak Davar and costumes by Neeta Lulla
. So it's almost like a movie for us. It costs that much too!"
Though the destination is now being taken to China
, with plans to "take it to to Las Vegas
", it's all about pleasing the capital and its guests abhi.
