That combined with some beautiful sceneries and beautiful weather and a melting pot of old and new(or modern) traditions, such as the Sea Links or the Parsi part of the town(forgot the name) made me proud to be Indian.

I'm assuming, that is Parsi colony near five gardens.

That is the area I spent my early childhood in, very close to five gardens, near Don Bosco school and UDCT campus.

Actually that is what I love about Mumbai most, the very English Victorian architecture to some very modern builds, as well as some very traditional Indian style colonies and residential areas tucked everywhere.
Kolkata is very similar, but the problem is that it is too corrupt and concerned about football and food to do anything spectactular. Let me give you an example: The domestic airport is better than the international airport. Yet it is safer for girls than Delhi and I feel a certain amount of plesaure while visiting that place. But of course, I am Delhi da ladla, and shall always miss the pollution, the vendors cursing each other's mothers, and the infinite potholes on the roads. One thing that has been impressive in Delhi is the metro however. The police patrolling and the maintanance is commendable.

I love Fort area for the colonial buildings. Indian style colonies I don't know where they exist, as other than Fort and Dadar's Parsi colony rest almost all are apartments.

One very irritating aspect of Mumbai is it's elongated shape. It has created so many barriers when it comes to travelling within the city. From suburbs to town, crossing from east to west, going from Western to Central to Harbour, everything is so time consuming that one doesn't feel like going too far.

Honestly, Mumbai can take on any city in the world. In fact Mumbai can kick butt of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Rio De Janeiro, London, Paris, Cairo, Moscow, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney - all of them together. But for now lets focus on one city.

I noticed the Guzaarish thread turning into a little Mumbai vs Delhi battle. So I figured why not have some fun and give the subject its own battleground. Now that we have settled that haphoos is better than langra, let us decide which city is better.

Aamchi Mumbai rules. Big smile
Let's get pedantic - the song is about Bombay, not Mumbai Wink
Secondly, has anyone even paid attention to the lyrics???

Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan

(Kahin building kahin traame, kahin motor kahin mill
Milta hai yahan sab kuchh ik milta nahin dil) -2
Insaan ka nahin kahin naam-o-nishaan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Aye dil hai..

(Kahin satta, kahin patta kahin chori kahin race
Kahin daaka, kahin phaaka kahin thokar kahin thes) -2
Bekaaro ke hain kai kaam yahan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Aye dil hai..

(Beghar ko aawara yahan kehte has has
Khud kaate gale sabke kahe isko
business) -2
Ik cheez ke hain kai naam yahan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Aye dil hai..

Geeta:
(Bura duniya woh hai kehta aisa bhola tu na ban
Jo hai karta woh hai bharta hai yahan ka yeh chalan) -2
Tadbeer nahin chalne ki yahan
Yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Rafi:
Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Geeta:
Aye dil hai aasaa jeena yahan
Suno mister, suno bandhu, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Rafi:
Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan

Not a very good choice, eh???Wink

Now, here's a song about Dilli Tongue

Billi ko mat lalkaaro Evil Smile

Kahane Ko Chhota Sa Ik Naam Hai Yah
Socho To Isake Matalab Hazaar
Dil Se Bana Hai Dilli Jabhi To Karata Hai
Dil Se Sabhi Ko Pyaar
Dil Se Bana Hai ...
Pyaara Hai Roos Ingalistaan Ka
Ye To Teerath Hai ...

Bikhara Hai Itihaas Galiyon Mein Isaki
Sadiyon Ke Baaki Yahaan Par Nishaan
Hogi Kashish Kuch Maati Mein Isaki
Baapu Ne Tyaage Yaheen Par Jo Praan
Hogi Kashish Kuch ...
Kya Kahana Isaki Shaan Ka
Ye To Teerath Hai ...

Charcha Hai Isaka Saare Jahaan Mein
Beshaq Yahi To Bhaarat Ka Taaj
Shobha Hai Is Taaj Ki Vo Javaahar
Jisaka Hamaare Dilon Par Hai Raaj
Shobha Hai Is Taaj ...
Raxak Bhaarat Ki Aan Ka
Ye To Teerath Hai ...

Well, being a native of Delhi, I would have strongly protested that argument had I not visited Mumbai this summer. Mumbai by all means qualifies as an international city. When I first arrived in Mumbai, the first thing I could not help but notice is the quality of the airport. It made me wonder why the Commonwealth Games are being held in Delhi. Such impeccable quality of the airport was comparable to some of the world's best airports. The bathrooms were top-class and the facilities were brilliant. Then, I noticed that the Mumbai people for the most part follow the traffic and the police is prompt in keeping the law in place. That combined with some beautiful sceneries and beautiful weather and a melting pot of old and new(or modern) traditions, such as the Sea Links or the Parsi part of the town(forgot the name) made me proud to be Indian.

Lastly, I would also prefer Mumbai because the CID team lives there.

Being a Delhiite, I am really saddened by the condition of my city in comparsion to MumbaiOuch

You obviously haven't landed here, have you?

I think these have the best lyrics:  Big smile

Jana-Gana-Mana-Adhinayaka, Jaya He
Bharata-Bhagya-Vidhata
Punjab-Sindhu-Gujarata-Maratha
Dravida-Utkala-Banga
Vindhya-Himachala-Yamuna-Ganga
Uchchhala-Jaladhi Taranga
Tava Subha Name Jage
Tava Subha Ashisa Mage

Gahe Tava Jaya Gatha.
Jana-Gana-Mangala Dayaka, Jaya He
Bharata-Bhagya-Vidhata,
Jaya He, Jaya He, Jaya He,
Jaya Jaya Jaya, Jaya He

Shola ji, the crime, the tough and all that jazz is what appeals to me about Bombay. Its about the unity in diversity, the survival in adversity, the resilience of people to bounce back after anything.

Thats why I love NYC in USA. On the Staten Island ferry to Manhattan, as we come closer to the island a gentle breeze blows by. The fresh scent of sea salt with a medley of diesel and petrochemicals. Ah smells just like home. Then when you see a fight breakout in Chinatown, and all the street vendors wrap their wares at the sign of the cops, you feel safe at home. You jaywalk past a cop car, I'm definitely safe at home.
