For those of us living in US, there's a debate going on about the words "under god" in the US pledge. Do you think the words should be taken out because they violate the first ammendment, or should they be left alone?

My views: I think they should be taken out because of the seperation of church and state. It's not right for kids in school to say under god while saying the pledge.

The pledge is:
I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, individual, with liberty and justice for all.

I've never really understood the under God part of the pledge. Can you please tell me what this part of it really means?

I dont see the problem with it. God doesnt belong in church, for seperation of church and state argument in the first place. That argument isnt even valid.

God is everywhere and for everyone if you are a believer. So what is wrong with "One nation under god". We can think of God as anyone we please in our hearts when we say the pledge. For those people that are athiests, deal with it-

People make such a fuss about being senstive to other religions and all , I mean if its Diwali I will say "Happy Diwali" when its christmas I want to say "Merry Christmas" Why do I have to say "Happy Holidays". That is so silly.

these little things are given so much importance, I mean the country is going bankrupt with war, god knows if medicare or social security will last and here we want to change the pledge.

Not to change the topic or something but it's so like in India. Focus on the little things to avoid the big ones. People are dying of hunger and we have to change names of cities and airports. Why didnt we destroy all the railway lines, stop speaking in English and rebuild new truly Indian railways and speak in chaste Hindi or only our native languages without a word of English.

You are right,

God doesnt belong in church..

first of all..all of us dont celebrate Hunnakh(spelling)..Quanza(spelling)..Diwali..and Christmas..so we say Happy Holidays 2 conver it all..i really dont think thts silly.

we cannot change the pledge. many people feel very strongly about those words u shudnt sing those words..]

i do agree if we helped fixed da little things then we wudnt have big probs. but i dont c wht tht has 2 do with this topic

anyyways..i think that under god means..we r all being watched my god..meaning simply..god is over us..

It all depends how you take it. For me it does not make any difference becasue it is ONE NATION UNDER GOD, AND INDIVIDUALLY WE DO HAVE THE LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. The entire nation will always be under god. We have the right to have our own beliefs but stand as nation always
