Pakistani cinema offers cheap entertainment
By Shoaib Ahmed
LAHORE: The Pakistani cinema is today
thriving on vulgar dances and nudity found in most of the Lollywood
flicks. The industry Cassandra's are of the view that new heroines are
following in the footsteps of their seniors specially, Reema and
Nargis, the two dance βdeities, and are more interested in body-shaking
and nudity than that decent and mature performances.
The
Pakistani cinema tagged as a crowd of such filmmakers who believe more
in semi-nude dances than a strong script is in troubled waters because
decent film audience hardly finds a film devoid of vulgar body-shaking.
The heroines from the seniors regiment, especially Reema and Nargis,
are always indulged into a high-voltage spree of vulgar dances. Both
ladies have 'decorated' Pakistani film industry with some real vulgar
dances they performed in various films.
Reema, in her first film
Bulandi was introduced as a dancer back in 80s and for next few years
she was recognised as a dancer by the industry people. Than she
improved herself a bit and performed in films like 'Rani Baithi Raaj
Keray Gi , Dil and Miss Istanbaul. Nevertheless, the dame came up with
good performances in those films and till today her sole image is that
of a fiery dancer and present-day heroines drive inspiration of fast,
fiery dances from Reema. Though Reema now says a big 'No' to dare-bare
dances, still Pakistani audience wants her to take long jumps in sugar
cane fields with all that body shaking she is known for.
Nargis
who appeared at silverscreen in a film Sazaa as a dancer throughout her
career kept her image of a vulgar dancer. She later turned her face to
theatre and promoted nude dances both on stage and films. Many new
heroines follow Nargis when it comes to dances because they are of the
view that survival in Pakistani film industry is not possible without
nude dances. Her sister Deedar who could be a good performer preferred
to be a dancer than a performer. Nargis gave tough time to her
contemporaries such as Nirma, Reema and Ali Shah and won the battle
successfully. Nargis shocked the film audience by dancing in a rain
song in film Choorian ' Mein Mar Gaie Aan , Zalman Way
As a
matter of fact, the present-day heroines are right into the footsteps
of her seniors when it comes to vulgar, dare-bare dances.
Interestingly,
same choreographers are training present-day film babes who have
trained the early lot names such as Ashraf Shirazi, Khanu and Pappu
Samrat are all out to train film girls in vulgar body-shaking. All
choreographers say that these are the producers who compel them for
such dance because otherwise film does not click at the box office. To
be honest, none of the Pakistani films can run in cinema on story for
there are no original scripts, according to a film legend who talked to
Daily Times requesting anonymity.
If one looks at the
present-day films, girls prefer nude dances. For example Laila has done
a damn sexy number in Raqasa a film by Perviaz Rana. Similarly, Araain
Da Khrag has some spicy numbers by Laila and Nirma. In film Data
Badmash, Saima has picturised a real vulgar dance. Zara Sheikh very
fresh arrival has exposed herself a lot in the songs of film 'Chalo
Ishq Larian', Noor, who is considered to be a good dancer among new
girls has also picturised semi-nude dances in various films.
As
far as Resham , Meera and Sana are concerned all three lasses are rated
as bad dancers and they have resorted to nudity to survive in the
industry. Resham has crossed limits in a film 'Kuriun ko dalay dana.'
Unfortunately,
today the Pakistani cinema is totally surviving on vulgar dances
instead of story and theme. The heroines say that they are in fact
being compelled to dance like that because it has always been the
demand of producers and directors.
