I studied Narayan's The English Teacher for Literature in 9th grade and admittedly it was a little boring...Maybe his other works are more interesting? IDK...

Hope it helped! *hugs* :D

Yeah, it's arundhati roy, shobha de (she keeps adding and deleting 'a's from her name....Indian Danielle Steele, I've heard her being referred to as. :|), r. k. narayan.

r.k. narayan's good - I've read his 'guide' and 'swami and friends'. dev ananad's movie guide was based on narayan's guide, and the tv show malgudi days was based on his series about that place (including the swami stories - kinda tom sawyer-ish).

ruskin bond is also good - writes mostly about shimla and surrounding areas, and a lot of his stories have supernatural stuff.

salman rushdie and v.s. naipaul are celebrated writers too, though I haven't read them.

you can also try the translations of writers like rabindranath tagore and sharatchandra chatterjee.

I'll let you know more. :)

Can anyone tell me more about the Vine of Desire?

I just finished Sister of My Heart :)

By the way, thanks for the thread, I love reading books by Indian authors.

I read a couple that are listed, including Keeping Corner, Blue Jasmine, and Koyal Dark, Mango Sweet.

Would love to discuss! :)

I absolutely love reading books by Indian authors. I actually went through a phase where I researched for books by Indian authors and read all of them. So here's my list. I hope you enjoy reading them, because most of them are very well written.

- The end of innocence by Moni Mohsin
- Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry
- Brick Lane by Monica Ali
- The Sari Shop by Rupa Bajwa
- The Death of Vishnu by Manil Suri
-The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
- The Age of Shiva by Manil Suri
-A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
-Chef by Jaspreet Singh

These are what i've read of Indian/Asian writers. Give them a go. I'm sure you'll really enjoy Manil Suri & Rohinton Mistry's books for sure.
