Speaking of nudity, the concept of inappropriate nudity and perversion is very relative.

The first foreign language film I watched was 'Goodbye Lenin' a critically acclaimed drama/comedy about Germany after the Berlin wall fell. Two teenagers try to shield their mom an ardent socialist who has is just conscious after years of coma, from realizing that the East Germany she loved is one with consumerism of West Germany.

Few minutes into the movie, one of the male characters is walking across the screen naked - full frontal. Nothing sexual or perverted in the scene. Just a guy walking across his apartment. I was like holy, that would be censored even in USA.

Over time I realized that 'nudity' which we are conditioned to believe as perverted or inappropriate has completely different connotations in Europe. European films treat nudity as natural, normal, part of humans - in a manner that is casual with no sexual intention attached to it.

I've discovered that this is true of Hebrew (Israeli) films too as I discovered in a Hebrew film I just watched (which had Parmeet Sethi). I also discovered that Israeli films were way more progressive than I imagined them to be.

The European, Japanese, Australian and some African countries approach to general television also is starkly more progressive than American. Indians might just die of a heart attack. When I was in school in our advertising class we would sometimes have a whole class of just viewing international ads. There is a lot more sexual innuendo, a lot more explicit content in their advertising that is aired just casually, which would even send Americans off blushing. Its not that they are more perverted - the culture connotations of sexuality is different in different parts of the world.

i think its time people STOPPED being so prudish and closed minded. Big smile

beleive it or not, this sex and nudity thigy has long been one of my fav Debate topics.WinkTongueLOL

my tried-and-tested arguement to this tried-and-tested debate is, sex, sexuality and nudity are a part of our lives......it is the essential need of every living thing, not just humans, that accounts for the continuity of the earths Nature population. without sex, the world would have been another dead planet.

also, sex itself is not a criterion to describing a film as good or bad....its the same old cliched line that it completely depends on HOW AND IN WHAT SENSE it is portrayed. If the script demands it, then it is in good tase...but if such scenes are only meant to titillate, then its crap.

what is "clean entertainment"? sexual thoughts , actions and problems are a part of the society and  of our lives...it is impossible to depict a real life totally leaving out the "unclean" part, unless its a film based on a very specific issue or a childrens' or animation movie.

Never said people should never have sex. My opinion is just that it should be kept between married couples and never shown on TV because it is supposed to be something pure and to make it public for others to see just seems very.....wrong...at least to me. And if being conservative and cultured means being close-minded and prudish, then so be it. I am rather happy with that.Smile

True. As my personal opinion too sex is a gift for married couples and should only be done behind closed doors. It's actully more intersting that way since you won't know what happens next. LOL
