Nice, but another counter argument could be...

Does one think before falling in love? Or does love just happen? What will you do if you suddenly fall in love, have no control on it, and your parents are pretty much against it? Ouch

I think more difficult for a lady to get consent to marry others compared to guys. It is the father that tends to be the stumbling block. some mothers too can be quite strong headed.

But if a guy marries someone of his choice against the wishes of the mum, there normally will be much tension between the wife and the MIL.

some parents tend to object no matter whom the daughter sees.

so long as the guy has a good character half the battle is worn I think.

Drug addicts, alchololics, gamblers, two timers etc should be kicked out .

Yeah, but it does relate to the love vs parents concepts. Or in a broader context personal choices vs parents. Personally, I feel parents may give a hard time because they expect the best for us, sometimes their standards of life partners are much more idealistic than ours. But eventually they will accept some of the choices their children make (but if your desi you can throw the having a baby equation out the window LOL

)

In an ideal world parents raise their kids well instilling their values and expectations in their children. They raise their children to be independent and make their life choices based on these value systems. When grown up and making their own decisions children adhere to most of these core values and never really betray parents. Similarly parents also completely trust decisions children make knowing that they have given them the right upbringing.

Of course we do not live in an ideal world and conflicts do arise. Parents are changing though. A lot of my old school mates on FB, most of them are having love marriages. Some outside the caste/community, a few outside the religion, a few with foreigners - but its wonderful to see parents on both sides and the whole happy extended family all together smiling and laughing in the wedding pics. When we were in school years ago, many of these people would have said - marrying outside would be sacrilegious in their family.
