Archie Comics is an American comic book publisher headquartered in the Village of Mamaroneck, Town of Mamaroneck, New York,^[1]^[2] known for its many series featuring the fictional teenagers Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle and Forsythe "Jughead" Jones. The characters were created by publisher/editor John L. Goldwater, written by Vic Bloom and drawn by Bob Montana. They were based in part on people met by Goldwater "in the midwest", during his travels throughout the United States while looking for jobs and places to stay.

Archie's first appearance in Pep Comics #22 on December 22, 1941 was drawn by Montana and written by Vic Bloom. With the creation of Archie, publisher Goldwater hoped to appeal to fans of the Andy Hardy movies starring Mickey Rooney.^[3]

Archie Comics is also the title of the company's longest running publication, the first issue appearing with a cover date of Winter 1942. Starting with issue #114 the title was shortened to simply Archie.

The Archie universe

Archie is set in the small town of Riverdale. The state, or even the general location of the town, is unclear. It is known, however, that John L. Goldwater attended Horace Mann School, which is located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx in New York City. In the early years of Archie, Riverdale was located in Massachusetts, with Mr. Lodge being a senator for that state, but this is no longer considered canon. Drawings of Riverdale High School appeared to follow the general design of the original high school, now City Hall, in Haverhill, Mass. One newspaper that carries the Archie comic strip, the Haverhill edition of the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune, calls the strip "Haverhill's Archie". It was said that characters in the strip were based on people in Haverhill especially at the high school, which was attended by Bob Montana.

For the comics' 60th anniversary in 2002, several geographical and historical hints to the location of Riverdale were printed in every digest issue. At the end of the year, it was revealed that the hints point to Riverdale being located in the "Missouri area," but that officially Riverdale has no location. It is essentially located wherever the reader wants it to be. Indeed, the geography of Riverdale is far too inconsistent for it to be any one specific location.

Archibald "Archie" Andrews

Archie, who is well known for his carrot-colored hair, is a typical small town boy with strong family values. He is a junior at Riverdale High School in Anywhere USA and usually brings home average grades from school. He is generous, well-mannered, well-meaning but extremely impulsive. He does things on the spur of the moment, which always gives him a keen reason to regret. Archie is the lead singer in The Archies band and plays the guitar. He is forever caught in the love triangle between sweet, blonde Betty Cooper and rich, sexy Veronia Lodge. His adventures in trying to choose between them always leads him into trouble and he in never able to find out who he loves more. Archie is respectful of authority but somehow always lands in trouble with the school principal Mr. Waldo Weatherbee. Veronica's father, Hiram Lodge is visibly shaken when Archie enters the house.

Elizabeth "Betty" Cooper

Betty Cooper is the girl next door. Your average small town girl; blonde hair, blue eyes and very sweet and earnest. She is a cute, practical dresser and is always ready to have fun (especially when Archie is concerned). But in addition to have fun, Betty always finds time for studying and enjoys writing. In addition to her concern for the environment and other social issues, we have established that Betty's goal is to become a famous writer. She is good at sports, can repair cars, is artistic and makes her own clothes. She does well in school and loves children. She has a brother named Chad and a sister named Polly. She sings with The Archies and plays the trambouline. She is very devoted to Archie but mainly plays second fiddle to Veronica. Through every crazy scheme to win Archie's love, Betty always remains completely unaffected, loyal and sweet.

Veronica "Ronnie/Ron" Lodge

Zodiac Sign:- Pisces

Veronica is gorgeous, sophisticated, sexy, and very RICH. She is also ambitious and would to run the Lodge Enterprises one day. She is confident about her appearence and her capibility to get things done. She plays the electric keyboard in The Archies and sings backup. With her beautiful, long black hair and her incredible appeal, Veronica has no problem with boys, except maybe with Archie. She is forever trying to win Archie's attention over Betty and uses her looks, brains and money to do so. Veronica has an outrageously expensive and beautiful wardrobe and always looks a million bucks. She is very conceited, usually fickle, and extremely flirtatious; she has Archie wrapped around her finger...or does she?

Forsythe P. "Jughead/Juggie/Jug" Jones

Age:- 16/17

Hair Color:- Black

Birthday:- 7 February

Zodiac Sign:- Aquarius

His real name is Forsythe P. Jones, but "Jughead" fits his personality better. He is a wacky character, who with his droopy eyes and long nose always looks like he is falling asleep (and most of the time he is). Jughead's favorite activities are eating, sleeping and eating again. Besides his tremendous appetite, Jughead is known for his grey beanie cap; he rarely goes anywhere without it. He has a baby sister called Jellybean. He is known as a "woman-hater" but this is not true as he just avoids complicated, Archie-type situations. Beneath Jughead's wacky and somnolent appearence lies a sharp-witted and alert person, and he is constantly helping his friend Archie get out of weird problems. He is Archie's best pal, rock and strength. Deep down, Jughead is a little eccentric compared to his friends, he tends to have different views than most, yet he is more in control of his life than Archie and his friends. He is cool...

Reginald "Reggie/Reg" Mantle

Age:- 17

Hair Color:- Red

Birthday:- 25 July

Zodiac Sign:- Leo

Reggie is the ultimate wise-guy; he is always trying to pull a fast one on someone (and that someone is usually Archie). He will be the first one to tell you how handsome he is, and believes that he is the best at everything. He is an all-round athelete, and that doubled with his good looks, makes him think that he is the ultimate school hunk. Despite his good looks he usually has a bad time during dates because girl's don't like his narcisstic attitude. Archie is his rival in everything, especially when Veronica is concerned. He is constantly playing pranks which makes the whole gang crazy. He plays the guitar for The Archies.

Heart Riverdale Relationships Heart

In the small town of Riverdale, Archie Andrews is always caught in the midst of a very famous love triangle consisting of himself, the sweet Betty Cooper and the sexy Veronica Lodge. No matter how hard he tries, he finds it impossible to choose between the two lovely maidens.

Archie Andrews & Betty Cooper

Betty used to at first consider Archie her annoying neighbour, but soon started falling in love with him. She is crazily and madly in love with Archie and would do about anything for him. She entices him many a times with her famous chocolate-chip cookies and other delights. Archie feels extremely comfortable around Betty because she is so sweet but he takes advantage of her many-a-times. Betty, unfortunately plays second fiddle to Veronica.

Archie Andrews & Veronica Lodge

Archie himself was shocked when Veronica agreed to go with him to a big dance for the first time. After that he started falling for her. Veronica loves Archie too, but not with intensity Betty does. She is always getting Archie to her side with her beauty and money. Archie has try to impress Veronica, unlike with Betty.
