I think the reason I did fairly well when I first moved to the U.S. was because I had some really great teachers in junior high. But at the same time, I don't think it should totally be up to the teacher, a student has to show interest as well. So, when a student shows interest, then a good teacher is a person who can guide them and teach them more than just what you find in textbooks.

oh yes that goes unsaid..a student has to put in effort too... if u dont put in effort u can never learn anything... i have seen some students who are just waiting to be spoon fed....every effort has to be put in by the teacher.. especially if they are personal tutors....

Confused I mean what i wrote, they may adopt means that may seem harsh to the students, but dont mean any harm if they teach you the right way !!

Sometimes the simplest questions in life are the hardest to answer.TongueTeachers are important and make a difference.   The quality of teaching is a crucial factor in promoting effective learning in schools.  Effective teaching requires individuals who are academically able and who care about the well-being of children and youth. WinkYou love your role you love being with your students and you couldn't imagine doing anything else. You were meant to teach special needs children, you know this in your heart.Smile

2. You have a great deal of patience and know that little steps in learning go a long way.

3. You know your students well and they are comfortable and at ease with you, they enjoy having you as their teacher and look forward to going school each day.Embarrassed

4. You provide a non threatning worldly enviornment that nurtures each of the students you work with.Smile

5. You understand your students, you know what motivates them and you know how to scaffold activities to ensure that maximum learning occurs.Wink

6. You take each student from where they are and provide experiences that will maximize success. You're always discovering new things about your students.Smile

7. You are very comfortable working with exceptional learners and learners with diverse needs.Big smile

8. You thrive on challenge, can easily build relationships with your students and your student's parents.Wink

9. You are a life-long learner and committed to the profession.Big smile

10. You have a never ending willingness to ensure that all students reach their maximum potential. You constantly strive to 'reach and teach' every student under your care. Embarrassed

@ centurions89- thanx for your replies... you have put all your points beautifully...

@cardenia- I remember too, my maths teacher in class 5 who actually uirned me ino a maths addict thanx to her teaching techniques...I personally feel a teacher can make or break your interest in a subject especially when you are young...

One of my favourite books is- To Sir with Love....I had loved it...

they help you make a better human human being, mould you from soft clay into a beautiful pot...

I really miss my school days where I had one of the best teachers...
