ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Militants launched a string of bold strikes in Pakistan on Thursday, leaving at least 30 police officers and civilians dead, authorities said.

At least 10 militants also died in the fighting, while others were missing.

The attacks on five targets in two cities were carried out on the same day that U.S. President Barack Obama signed legislation providing an additional $7.5 billion in assistance to the Pakistani government.

Among other things, the act promotes a partnership aimed at "combating the extremism that threatens Pakistan and the United States."

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the Pakistani Taliban accepted blame for the three attacks against two police training centers and the country's Federal Investigation Agency in Lahore. At least 25 people died.

The three assaults began about 9 a.m. and were nearly simultaneous, police spokesman Rai Nazar Hayat said. The militants stormed each facility before setting off explosives and, in some cases, taking hostages. Video hspace5Watch a rundown of the day's attacks

"(If) the law enforcement agencies are not safe ... how can the common man feel safe?" asked Amir Mughal, a civilian witness to the attack on the investigation agency. "Our children go to school -- even they are so scared," he added.

"We don't know that we can get back to our homes after work."

Shakeel Ahmad, a witness to one of the training center explosions, acknowledged he is afraid, but added: "On the other hand, we are motivated also by seeing these army soldiers. We are with them."

About a half hour after the trio of attacks, a suicide car bomber hit a police station in the Kohat district of northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 11 people -- eight civilians and three police, said Kohat Police Chief Dilawr Bangish. A dozen people were wounded.

The offices of several senior police and government officials and several military installations also are nearby.

In Peshawar, a remote control bomb exploded inside a car parked in front of an apartment building.

A hospital official said an 8-year-old boy was killed and eight people -- four women, two men and two children -- were wounded. One of the children, a girl, is in critical condition. The blast took place in a residential area for government officials and employees.

Militant attacks have become increasingly bold in recent days.At least 41 people were killed and 45 wounded in a blast Monday at a security forces checkpoint in northwest Pakistan. The explosion occurred in the Shangla district in the volatile Swat Valley.

On Saturday, militants attacked the army headquarters in Rawalpindi, killing 11 military personnel and three civilians, according to the Pakistani military. Nine militants died. A total of 39 hostages were freed Sunday morning after being held by five militants at the army headquarters.

hey, what do you exactly mean by want to see india - pak together again? is it india - pak reunited as one state, one nation, one country or india - pak working hand in hand together as allies?

as far as it goes though both situation is difficult to attained in short term period. it gonna take ages for india - pak to ever be a good allies to one another. there are just too many bitterness and hatred between these two states.

Yes I hope so too so that the common people in Pakistan can have some peace too.
War, politics and religion are too complicated for most of the common people. It always confuses and divides them.

not too mention the bitterness that cause the separation back in 1947, plus the conflict over kashmir.

India is obliged to help as Pakistan is their neighbour and they are brothers too. sorry to say this summerji, but you are only one of the few people who think that pakistan and india are brothers. i don't mean to be pessimistic or trying to say that you are wrong, but the numbers of those who hate each other in pakistan and india are even more than the number who love each other in india and pakistan.
In the long run peace is good for everybody. yeah, peace is indeed good for everybody in the long run. but as long as there is no factors driving the pakistanis and the indians to seek peace, they will not seek peace with one another. perhaps there will be no violence and direct war between india and pakistan, but undoubtedly both india and pakistan will try to deter one another which will be causing further tensions with one another.
Once the leaders can get along most of the problems can be solved but generally a lot of politicians are not so straight, so the common people suffer. i don't think that india and pakistan leaders will get along. they will only be thinking of their own interests and accumulation of powers instead creating peace with one another. they will also be reluctant especially when they carry a long legacy of hatred since the birth of the two countries.

Nothing great for India, because there are two types of terrorists in Pakistan: Some against India and others against Pakistan. Pakistan is fighting only those who are against Pakistan, meanwhile it continues to fully support those who are against India.

not to mention the one who are both against india and pakistanis government especially when the pakistanis government are 'trying' to seek alliance with india.

There are good and bad people everywhere. The common people are all good. The politicians are mostly bad in any countries.
True!
Back to the topic:
Pakistani politicains are killing their own people just to get aid its their fault and this terror is created by themselves...noone can do anything untill some local is not involvedDead

maybe they should change the structure of the government and educate the people in terms of disciplines instead of mere hatred to those who are against them.
