About the Navratri - a lot of Gujju families do staaphna and bring a garba which is a colored and decorated pot with holes and a diya is lighted in it for all the 9 days. Pooja and fasting is done for 9 days and at night garba is done around this pot. That is what they are talking about.

 

Baa wants Santu to bring the garba into the house and do the staaphna. This would mean that DM would have to eat food (prasad) from Santu for the 9 days. On the tenth day (Dussera) the pot is immersed in water (ocean or river).

Yeah, where we go we they have the diya lit at all times, I am going to miss Navarati this year wow that must have been so much fun with all your family, but I must say I enjoy the Dandiya and Ramjunyu more than the garba!
