PRC:

Prithviraj Chauhan was born c. 1168 to king Someshwara Chauhan and his wife Karpurawali. He was renowned to be the sharpest among all the princes in the household. At gurukul , Prithviraj learnt shastra vidya (weaponry, armed combat), sahitya (literature), kala (arts) and rajniti shastra (politics).It was here that he learned the art of "shaabd bhedi baan vidhya" that is hittitng a target without seeing the target, that is only on the basis of sound. With the stories of Prithviraj's courage, valor and intelligence spreading far and wide, Anangpal the King of Delhi decided to make him the king of delhi instead of jai chandra. Thus he was crowned prince of Delhi at the young age of 13 years. At the age of 12, he killed Bheemdev Solanki, the king of Gujarat, who betrayed his father Someshwar Chauhan. Prithviraj Chauhan was the second last Hindu king to sit upon the throne of Delhi.

He controlled much of Rajasthan and Haryana, and unified the Rajputs against Muslim invasions. His elopement with Samyukta, the daughter of Jai Chandra, the Gahadvala king of Kannauj, is a popular romantic tale in India, and is one of the subjects of the Prithviraj Raso, an epic poem composed by Prithviraj's court poet and friend, Chand Bardai. As a king, Prithvi represents the league of Rajputs best known for their bravery. Prithvi Raj is also famous for his encounters with Mohammed Ghouri. A true son of soil, Prithvi was a very responsible king who could go to any extent to safeguard his motherland, his people and theirinterests.

Sanyogita:

Sanyogita is the beautiful daughter of the King of Kannauj, Jaichand. She is a pampered and protected girl. Tales of her beauty had spread far. Her love for him is so strong that she defies her beloved father's wishes and chooses to run away with him.

On the day of her swayamwar, she refuses to choose any of the princes present and instead openly declares her love by garlanding Prithviraj's statute kept at the door by her father. Soon, Prithviraj himself appears and they elope. This led to a rift between Delhi and Kannauj kingdoms which was taken advantage of by Sultan Muhammad Ghori of Afghanistan. The love story of Prithvi Raj Chauhan and Sanyogita was immortalized through songs and poems.

Anas Rasid aka Prithviraj Chauhan Interview update

One of the biggest Primetime historical series, Prithvi Raj Chauhan has always kept its viewers hooked to the Television sets. After getting a huge success, the series has now crossed another milestone with Prithvi Raj Chauhan getting a more youthful look. He will be seen winning crucial battles, accepting major challenges and leading himself to become the leader. Anas Rashid, who has already executed his acting skills in big soaps like Kahiin Toh Hoga, has now accepted this challenge of playing this very role of a historical character as Yuva Prithvi Raj Chauhan.

Anas Rashid feels great and very responsible to make an entry into this historical series with high TRP. "It is a huge responsibility on my shoulders to maintain the image of Prithvi Raj Chauhan. We have read in the history books about him, and will have an image of his in our mind. To fulfill that image is very difficult. I am working very hard towards it. And as a team, we are trying to do everything possible so that viewers get to know the Indian history and understand this leader. I feel more responsible because I need to put myself in the place of the great king". So, how were you approached for this role? "The auditions had been taking place for the past 12 months and the team could not find anyone suitable for this role. They needed someone who can replace Rajat and someone who also looks similar to him. My secretary came to know about it, and asked me to give an audition. I was tested for various aspects like horse riding, how comfortable I am with using the weapons etc. Later, I was selected for the role and I am very happy to have got it".

As this role is of a historical character, Anas also had to prepare himself for this. "I Keeping the image intact of a king is a tough job. The directors and writers have helped me a lot. They explain and guide me through every sequence. I understand the emotions better from my writers because one cannot get that by reading a book. Viewers should feel that essence, which is more important", says the youngster. About learning to ride a horse he says, "I have never done horse riding before. Yes, I have sat on a horse once or twice but never knew how to ride. It just took me two days to learn. There was a coach appointed who taught me this and then I learnt it myself by practice". How about usage of weapons? "There are fight masters who help me with that. I learn and by practice, it becomes perfect". Adds Anas, "Rajat has created an image among the viewers and he has won many hearts. I need to maintain the same image for which I am trying my best".

Sheetal Dabholkar, the simple Mumbaiite, who plays the beau of Prithviraj in Star Plus very popular weekend show, Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan is happy that she has now managed to get into the skin of her character in the serial.

The pretty Sheetal who is the cousin sister of popular actress, Ashwini Kalsekar gets into a candid conversation with our reporter, Ranjini Nair..

You replaced Pooja Joshi all of a sudden to play the role of Sanyojita. Can you take us thro' this..
I was called to audition for the role and I got selected soon after that. But even when I got the role, I did not know that I would be replacing Pooja and taking up the role of Sanyojita.

Many viewers feel you justify the role of Sanyojita very well. What do you have to say about this.
When I started playing the role, I really had no idea about the characterization of Sanyojita, but I improved gradually as I got more information. I can now say that I have at last managed to get into the skin of the character. Also, I have my fans calling me up regularly and appreciating my work. Even the channel is happy the way things are shaping up with my character.

How do you manage with the heavy jewels and heavy attire worn by you in the serial?
This is not the usual saas-bahu saga. It is the demand of my character that I wear heavy jewels and dresses. When I started, I used to have loads of problems with these big jewels, but now I am used to getting decked from head to foot (smiles).

Do you get to choose your dresses?
Yes, whatever I wear for the serial are chosen by me. Our producer's wife who is a designer decides on the dresses, but I modify them according to my needs if needed. Recently, in one of the episodes, I was given an Aishwarya look from 'Jodhaa Akbar' and I got a chance to select that dress too (grins).

Were you an avid watcher of the serial before you took up the role?
No, I had never watched the serial before. But I knew that the chemistry of the lead pair then was very much appreciated by the viewers.

So what motivated you to accept this challenge and step into Pooja's shoes?
Well, this is exactly the work of an actor and I am honored to be part of this successful show.

What are the other projects you have in hand?
Right now, I am happy doing this role. I want to concentrate on Prithviraj now, rather than taking up more projects.

Would you be interested in taking up saas-bahu genre, if offered?
No, I am not interested in doing the usual roles. I want to do something different and I would always like to experiment with different roles.
