While its true that BC gives women some amount of liberty we have to look at other aspects too. For many women BC is not a choice as they have to follow the dictats of their husband & in laws & bear as many children as they have to until they beget a male child & many times even after that. There are many women from the lower socio economic grp who get pregnant every year & have 6-7 kids even if their health does not permit & they have no means to ensure a decent life either for themselves or their kids.

You have put it very well sandya, the disincentive policies was something tried by the late Sanjay Gandhi but it didnt go down very well with the people as it was seen as infringing on the right to freedom of choice.

The problem is that while most educated ppl have understood the personal benefits of family planning & have limited their family size the rest of the population grows uncontrollably & these offsprings wud later pose serious threats to the offsprings of the well meaning parents who had limited their progeny in order to improve their life conditions. Its ironical that this may turn out against them in future.

So the dilemma is wheather the educated ppl should also try multiplying to counter the uncontrolled growth of other grp or should the other grp be somehow be made to restrict themselves. The later option seems to be an impossibility so what is to be done ??? Confused
