Yes the wives of Dasaratha did not commit sati. In the history India and Hinduism , many have not committed sati.

Dowry system is still practised by several of the Indians even here in Singapore. It has become quite commercialised too.

oh dowry u should see in south india, specially hyd, people r too rich here i guess. marriages wont happen without dowry and that too how much. in lakhs and crores too. if someone asks me for dowry, i say if i have so much moeny they y would i give it to a monkey LOL like u . would rather put it in FD and enjoy the interest.LOL
Among the Chinese it has normally the male that has to give presents etc to the bride and the family.
Anyway I hope the dowry system is fully abolished.

Oh well Summer I do agree in some parts, and not in others though...

See if both the parents are educated, and can come up with a compromise, then fair enough, its their choice, and in that case, the right one as well...

However, imagine if divorcing the spouse would be better than letting the child go through all the emotional drama at home so that he despises not one, but both parents... In that case, its far better to opt for a divorce straightaway! I don't say a compromise can't be reached in such cases, but a separation could be far better... The human race is renowned for its greediness, and in whatever field, this certainly applies I guess... Its better for the child to receive both the parents love separately, than to listen to fights and arguments each second he spends at home... Don't you think so?

Also, I'd like to clarify, I don't think going for a divorce on the spur of the moment is one bad thing to do... We can never be aware of the circumstances these couples are actually into, thereby not being able to judge them... But yeah I do feel, any decision has to be taken rationally and after at least some proper thinking and consideration of not only yourself, but the people who would be affected by the decision, whether you love them or not is totally an entirely different matter....

Cheers,
Sneha

I read the news before someone say 'Talaq' in his dreams , and some religious leaders say he cant live with his wife....actuly Who are these 'leaders' who have given such an edict? I believe If the husband uttered the word 'talaq' during his sleep then it is in no way valid as one of the preconditions for divorce to be effected is that the man should be in a state of sanity...   if sleep-walking is "somnambulism," what's sleep-divorce?Wink

yes we have to distiguish real life, sleep, thoughts , dreams etc.
Power and position normally corrupts even religious leaders and good men.
Some leaders are too gullible and the crooked advisers know how to get their way.

Oh I agree... Definitely not all divorce cases end up on a good note...

Personally, I don't believe how you can "remain friends" with someone you once loved... Either you never loved him, or you don't know now... Being friends is synonymous to caring for that person, looking after him in need and loving him to an extent, which is next to impossible if you loved him before... Its pretty much ridiculous and that can't happen ---> the reason why most divorce cases end up on a sad note....

Also the process if divorce when having kids has always been more painful, not only because they are separated between their kids.... But also because the parents have to live a dual life, especially if the kids are younger... Neither do they want to stay away from the kids, neither can they live with the opposite father/mother... Making things a hell lot complicated!!....
