yes it is good to know the laws of certain countries and comply with them.

Personally I think all rules and regulations should be applied fairly to all people; as far as possible.

yes i think a person should be well aware of all the laws and regulations of that country before going to that country. and as per eqaual laws. i think its culture diff. some thing which is right for them would not be right for us. but here i think the punishment should not be very insulting like the ones u mentioned it should be monetary or warning or if it is too sever then cancel the visa . but things like slapping women. or beating them up or something like those should really be avoided.
In Singapore where laws are strict too, there is no caning for men over 50 years and ladies.
Caning is pretty serious as all of the caning is done at once eg. if it is 6 strokes then the person will not be able to sit for months as the skin will tear.
Caning should be for serious crimes and not for such petty things. Furthermore the law is not applied equaly and fairly. Persons of position and power normally do what they like and womanise or drink and do all kinds of things. No one is there to stop them.

now dowry is not a part of sati. its entirely diff. its in order to kill the first wife and bring new one and again ask for dowry. sometimes i really feel like laughing at such incidents first of all its the fault of girls. y marry such guys and such familes who ask dowry?

extremely sorry for going off the track.

so not worry I am also a master of going off trackLOL
Yes the wives of Dasaratha did not commit sati. In the history India and Hinduism , many have not committed sati.

Dowry system is still practised by several of the Indians even here in Singapore. It has become quite commercialised too.

Oh Frankly speaking, I am waiting for the days we could have babies on the net, and print them out as copies... Lol!!

Ridiculous I tell you!!....

Actually, we live in an energy-driven world, high-tech based and sophisticated world dear, so why shouldn't it be possible? That's all about it, people still believe in marriage and ceremonies, its just their worth that's being ignored and shun away... Whether its should be allowed or not, I can't really judge based upon only the stories you have accumulated... But yeah listen to this,

I know a very close case, that of my mom's friend, where her husband called her to the court to get divorced (I am skipping unimportant details) and she refused. The next day, she got an official letter from the jurisdiction of the country, informing her that she was now divorced!

What had happened : He had filed the case under a certain "French" system, wherein, if the partner does not come to court, then the one applying for Divorce succeeds the very next day... Interesting isn't it? Now how far is that from divorce through SMS?...

People, ALL of us, are feigning ignorance towards those things and people that should matter the most in life... I wonder in who's betterment we are advancing towards?...

Good Topic Summer!!....

Cheers,
Sneha

Thanks Sneha, so the French too have their bag of tricks.
Parents that break up are simply being selfish. They should first consider what is best for the kids and then do what is required of them.
One of my friends told me that a gentleman had an intolerable wife who caused him much problem but this guy waited till his daughter had finished all her education before divorcing the wife. Well at least he did have some thoughts for the daughter. Still all divorces are sad.
