No, I can see references to SB, but I'm curious about Mahabharata text as well.

For Mahabharata, I prefer the P. Lal transcreation. Not only is it accurate/faithful but it incorporates every sloka of every recension. I like it for being so complete. Plus the transcreation flows better and manages to capture a feel of the original by shifting between lyrical verse and prose.

The Ganguli translation is quite faithful. However when it comes to sexual passages, he outrights omits some of them while embellishing others. P. Lal does neither and reproduces it all, faithfully.

I also use the Clay Sanskrit Library version sometimes.

For the Ramayana, I use a variety of sources due to a lack of a comprehensive edition. Primarily, I use translation of the Critical Edition (Goldman et al) and the M. N. Dutt-Dr. Ravi Prakash Arya translation (based on the vulgate text).

Yep, now I remember - Vasusena was what Karna was named. Incidentally, he was called Karna long before he sacrificed the kavach/kundal, which was sometime before the war, when it looked inevitable that he wouldn't abandon the Kauravas. Like at the archery contest where he humiliated Arjun, Karna was what he was called.

True. But what I was referring to was this:

First he was Vasusena.
Because he hewed his armour
off his body he became
Karna the Cutter.
From Adi Parva > Sambhava Parva, Section 111, Sloka 42. (P. Lal Transcreation)

don't like Barbarik from what you wrote - not only should he have
defaulted to the Pandava side because they were righteous, but also
because they were his family (for this discussion, please don't say the
Kauravas were also his family)

And even if I did, Krishna comes
out as so evil - demanding the head of the bravest kshatriya. Where
did that come from? Sounds as twisted as the tale of Rama asking for

But
wasn't it the same with Aravan, Uloopi's son? Didn't the Pandavas (that
too Arjun) ask him to sacrifice himself for the war?
sorry fr the interuption here....bt can u plz xplain whats the disscussion abt barbareik here...?
as far as i have read krishna cut his head due to his arrogance 2 win over whole kaurav sena....n then at last at end of war he was asked who was greatest warrior of all...n he replied no one else bt only krishna ws there at war field.
plz clear my doubt as i am really intrested in this thread.
