She knows that Archana has sacrificed a lot for the family and particularly for her, so she wants her to marry someone who earns well (That can come with education only) and can keep her happy. That seems to be her primary goal, since she always keeps stressing on a good pay package of the bridegroom.
ya, i agree. she wants archana to have a comfortable life after all the hardships she has had to put up with. i totally understand that, but at the same time it shows that she DOES value education because it is a means to earn money. i think what makes her somewhat of a hypocrite is that she acts like a "degree isn't everything" when it comes to her daughter, but the same principle doesn't apply to her prospective grooms.
