Shahrukh Khan and Kajol to be in Stanley Park on June 13

Observer News Service

Vancouver, BC: Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will be here to relive the magic of 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)'. The lead pair of the 1995 hit will be visiting Stanley Park on June 13 at 7:30 pm for this year's production of the South Asian Family Association's "Bollywood Under the Stars: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge"

Last summer, SAFA brought the Big B and Dharmendra in "Sholay" to Millenium Park. DDLJ just finished a 700 week run in Mumbai this past March. Translated to "The Brave Heart will take the Bride", it is one of the highest grossing Bolly films earning 580 crores INR in India and over 175 crores overseas.

Suki Grewal, President of SAFA said her team chose this movie, a story of arranged marriages, forbidden love and how the families each handle the love story of Raj and Simran, both children of the Indian diaspora, for its message as well as its star qualities. "This situation is not uncommon to our community" she added. The struggle between different cultural value systems is one that new immigrants almost always face in addition to possible language barriers and barriers to entry into the workforce. One of SAFA's mandates is to encourage a marriage between our eastern and western identities."
DDLJ will be aired on a 28 * 24 foot screen inside the Sawan Mela tent in Lumberman's Arch on Saturday June 13 at 7:30pm. The movie is 3 hours in length so guests are encouraged to bring their blankets, flashlights and lawnchairs. Admission is free and live entertainment begins at 2:00pm including a skit: "DDLJ in 10 minutes" by local comedy troupe Bollywood Shenanigans. There will be a visual art exhibition, butter chicken, channa bhatura, dosas, mehndi, jewellry, clothing and mini-makeovers available in the marketplace. A shuttle service will operate every 20 mins from Burrard Station to Lumberman's Arch and back until 11:30 pm.
