Nope, reservation is preferential treatment. Once we justify preferential treatment to compensate for past harms we open up an endless loop.

If someone's socioeconomic status makes them less likely to have a good education or work training, then invest in bringing them up to speed, do not lower the standards and push them through.

Think of it would you think its OK to lower safety standards on a car because the company has tough times or be forced to buy a brand to make up a car diversity quota.

ya , well yes, the ideal way should be to invest effort in them !

But how ?

Btw - now its got me thinking. What exactly do you all feel are the "pros" of reservation system?

Needs based, not caste, race, community or religion based.

But how ?

Person cannot find job - public job banks, skilled worker training, job finding assistance, skill building workshop NOT free ticket to a job they may not be able to responsibly fulfill.

Lack of education - scholarships to low income groups, books and materials loaning/sharing/funding services. English training for vernacular students, flexible school scheduling for children who must work, work study programs, remedial summer and vacation classes to catch up NOT free admission to people with low academic performance simply because they won a birth ticket.

Funding? - Divert funds from 'reservation' programs to 'useful' programs. Stop wasting campaign funds on appealing to these groups through 'reservation' apply it to something useful. Taxing the people who oppose reservation (who mostly happen to be the well to do). We all have to pay a price for what we want. If people do not want to do that. Then suck it when you lose your job or college seat to some dumb ****

Btw - now its got me thinking. What exactly do you all feel are the "pros" of reservation system?

None. Its glorified discrimination. That's that.

Excellent post RTH Clap Clap  Wish our politicians focus on this rather prolonging the reservation policies which hasnt achieved much in all these years except benefitting the politicians in the form of possible vote banks

Reservation...ufff...No its not the ultimate solution ...If Government wants to do anything then they should give free education till 10 th class including books and transportation from school to home.If a person dose well then again give free education till 12 th..It all depends on person .Noone can suppress intelligence. What bother us is the reservation in TOP INSTITUTES and medical colleges..e.g.IIM's, IIT, Top Medical colleges ..these institutions/ colleges have produces some TOP Engineers,CEO and Doctors of the world. They are the cream of our economy. They shouldn't bring reservation in these Institutes .Intelligent students will thrive and come out even if there is a 70% qouta.
