In
ayurveda, the human body is classified according to three prakritis (body
types), vata, pitta, and kapha. One of these is always found to be dominant,
while the other two may also be present in smaller ratios. Being overweight
is a sign that the vata, pitta or kapha system is imbalanced in a particular
person. According to ayurveda, unhealthy weight gain happens mainly when your
diet is not balanced by good digestion or metabolism. Weight problems are
largely found in people who are predominantly kapha type.

Yoga
is claimed to be the most effective way to shed extra kilos without worrying
about any side effects. The key focus of yoga is to establish unity between
the body, mind and soul. Although yoga might help in losing weight, it is not
specially designed for it. All yoga asanas and kriyas help in toning up the
body and strengthening up the muscles which helps you become healthy and in
turn lose weight. Yoga makes the body more flexible and helps in correcting
problems caused due to weight gain.
