Alternative Methods of Weight Loss
For any weight loss program it is important to decide how much weight do you really need to lose? Crash diets, fad diets or sudden bursts of exercise don't work. The human body is designed for slow and steady changes in terms of food and exercise. If you have not exercised for a long time, do not attempt to run five kilometers every day. Build up your levels of exercise step by step. Understand the nutritional value of your food and consume as much as you can of good nutrition. Before that, you need to know the difference between good nutrition and bad nutrition and always remember food is not equal to fat.
Alternative methods offer many uncomplicated and pain-free ways to stop weight gain and promote weight loss. They have the extra advantage of acting on your mind, feelings and emotions and spirit as well, and therefore controlling the original imbalance that resulted in uncontrolled eating. There are several alternate ways of losing weight; here we discuss the two most important.
In ayurveda, the human body is classified according to three prakritis (body types), vata, pitta, and kapha. One of these is always found to be dominant, while the other two may also be present in smaller ratios. Being overweight is a sign that the vata, pitta or kapha system is imbalanced in a particular person. According to ayurveda, unhealthy weight gain happens mainly when your diet is not balanced by good digestion or metabolism. Weight problems are largely found in people who are predominantly kapha type.

An ayurveda expert can help you identify your prakriti and the imbalance or doshas which has resulted in weight gain. The Ayurvedic approach to attaining your ideal weight is established on understanding your body type and then nourishing it back to good health. Ayurveda is about getting to know your body and adapting to a holistic lifestyle to gain your natural health back.
Yoga is claimed to be the most effective way to shed extra kilos without worrying about any side effects. The key focus of yoga is to establish unity between the body, mind and soul. Although yoga might help in losing weight, it is not specially designed for it. All yoga asanas and kriyas help in toning up the body and strengthening up the muscles which helps you become healthy and in turn lose weight. Yoga makes the body more flexible and helps in correcting problems caused due to weight gain.

Yoga is not a magical therapy which helps in weight loss, like any other means it takes time. However, it can be an excellent long term holistic approach to weight loss and overall fitness.
Yoga mainly comprises of asanas and shatkarmas. Asanas are specific positions and exercises which conserve and renew energy that helps in overcoming heaviness and make the body more flexible. Shatkarma and cleansing rituals and must be coupled up with yoga asanas for speedy weight loss. It is advisable to initially take help of a yoga master to know the correct way of practicing the asanas and shatkarmas.
