Vennila Kabadi Kulu – Good one with flimsy end
vennila-kabadi-kuluDon't expect every sports film to be a Kind of 'Chak De India'… But the filmmakers brimming with different ideas of same sort in Kollywood is something praise worthy. Not everyone do attempt with such films as 'Raw-Commercial' factors are more spotted. 'Vennila Kabadi Kulu' is enriching when it comes to a new feel of technical aspects. But when it comes to narration and theme, it's coincidentally reminding us off previous films based on offbeat themes. Yeah! You've a beautiful melody of boy and girl looking at each other. Need an illustration? It's alike 'Kangal Irandal' from Subramaniapuram and over here it's 'Lesa Parakkudhu'. Similarly, a song on festive occasion has been predominantly seen in these ones. Leave it apart! When you figure out 'How far VKK is different from recent releases, we've a simple answer. A much worth-watchable flick when compared with Pongal releases 'Villu' and 'Padikadhavan'. But rule of a review isn't about taking 'Comparisons' ahead.

Susindhran bounded by his own life experiences of his father blends it with 'VKK'. Does his spell work magic abundantly on the screens?  Yes. It does…. But not does it exceed your expectations for a bit middling flimsy narration and an unconvincing climax. For sure, multiplex audiences are not to take it. And when it comes to B and C in towns and villages, things would be different.

It's about a small town guys teaming up together for 'Vennila Kabadi Kulu' where they love sporting Kabadi all the time. Well, their insatiable passion for sports doesn't make them winners. In contrast, they're often ridiculed as losers and you don't see Maari (Vishnu) as a superhero where he's the one bright player (Hats off to Susindhran for a reality). On the occasion of a festival, it's love at first sight for both Maari and a beautiful girl (Saranya Mohan). Melted down with their hearts and souls, they've expressed their love through, but not directly. At the time, when the girl departs to her home town, she has her heart left behind with Maari and ditto to him. But, it's merely he doesn't even know her name. Things later go on with an inter-district level Kabadi match. Though not officially qualified, they tend to participate in the last minute decision. All credit goes to their hometown person who's a Kabadi Coach (Kishore). Then it's all about series of Kabadi Matches with an expected end. But it doesn't leave audiences at ease with an entertaining feel. Here we've Susindhran adopting the climax attributes of 'Kalloori', where climax isn't gripping in anyway.

Why did Susindhran try ending his film with a black shade? All throughout the film, we see a beautiful story of poignant romance, tightened game and the climax could've been happier. It's his thought and we have no regrets about it. No wrong in depicting his ideas, but he could've did it better gratifying for the masses.

Debutant Vishnu has come with a good performance and they're more flawlessness. He's good expressing his emotions on different situations. Actress Saranya Mohan is fantabulous offering freshness to the tale of poignant romance. Kishore with his clichd best performance does a brilliant job with his top-notching reflections. Well, rest of the casts has spelled their best out of them.

Musical score by Selvaganesh is extraordinary on both songs and background. Picturing of 'Mannai Aedu' goes well with Laxman's cinematography. Rich coloring does look well, but at some frames, we don't get to see a naturalistic approach.

On the whole, 'Vennila Kabadi Kulu' could've been better if climax was something was perfect with finesse. Or else, the film would be a real top-charting flick of this season.

Banner: Imagine Creations

Production: K. Anand Chakravarthy

Direction: Susindhran

Star-casts: Vishnu, Saranya Mohan, Kishore and others.

Music: V. Selvaganesh

Thanks Nallu.

But I really don't understand what the reviewer is trying to say - he fancies himself as an avant garde writer, I think. Black shade? What's that?

Sigh.
